Verbal communication and Non-verbal communication (3 marks)
Verbal communication refers to the use of words. The efficiency and
effectiveness of verbal communication began with the development of
language. Communication is often equated with speaking and writing
and words are often viewed as the primary if not the only means by
which information can be conveyed from one person to another.
Non-verbal communication:
It includes actions such as gestures, vocalizations, facial expressions, and
other behavior. Communication by facioal expression, by tone of voice,
by touch etc. comes under the category of non-verbal communication.
Non-verbal communication is categorized into seven types: (7
marks)
1. Paralinguistics: It is a kind of complementary language which
includes meaningful variations in speech corresponding to patterns
of loudness, pitch, hesitation etc.
2. Kinesics: Which includes facial expressions, eye movements,
gestures etc?
3. Haptics: Which refers to the use of touch to communicate i.e.,
shaking hands, holding hands, patting etc.
4. Proxemics: Refers to the use of interpersonal space i.e., how far
a person is standing from the other, can communicate different
meanings.
5. Dress and appearance: Dress, hairstyles, make-up, jewelry etc.
can also constitute non-verbal code of communication.
6. Chronemics: How time is considered is sometimes message in
itself, a form of non-verbal communication called Chronemics.
7. Iconics: Interpretation of symbolism found in objects or designs
can be considered as a type of communication.

information analysis must answer the tough question in a lucid manner.

2. The analysis must be focused, not general. The analysis must be
focused on the issues of the company/organisation/problem undertaken
an for which information has been collected.
3. The analysis must be timely: The information provided in the
analysis must be up-to-date.
4. High trust level: One must trust the information provided in the
analysis.
5. Result must be in the best form for management.
