Angiosperms are a type of plant that reproduce
using flowers for sexual reproduction. After
fertilization, the ovary of the flower will develop
into fruit that surround, protect, and help
disperse the seeds.
The main purpose of a flower is SEXUAL
REPRODUCTION.
• The petals attract pollinators like birds and
insects.
• The pistil is the female part of the flower and
is made up of the stigma, style, and ovaries.
• The stamen is the male part of the flower
made up of the anther and the filament.
A. Cuticle- waterproof
barrier that helps protect the
leaf and prevent water loss.
B & C. Mesophyll- specialized
tissue where photosynthesis
occurs. These cells are full of
chloroplasts.
E. Stoma – small openings
that allow carbon dioxide,
water, and oxygen to diffuse
in and out of the leaf.
F. Vein- made up of a bundle
of xylem and phloem
G. Guard Cells- special cells
that open and close the
stoma
The main job of leaves is to absorb sunlight for
photosynthesis.
The main job of the stem is to transport
substances throughout the plant and hold up
the leaves to the sun
• XYLEM transport water.
• PHLOEM transport nutrients.
The main job of the root of a plant is to absorb
water and nutrients from the soil and to anchor
the plant in the ground.
Root hairs: penetrate the
soil and allow a larger
surface area for absorption
Root Cap: covers the
growing tip of the root and
protects it from damage
