There are many different types of rocks…

how and what they are made of
 Like potatoes: mashed, baked, scalloped, etc.

Each come from a plain potato, but were made differently

1. Igneous: formed
when molten rock
cools
2. Metamorphic:
formed when existing
rock undergoes
intense heat and
pressure that alters
the rock composition
and characteristics
3. Sedimentary:
formed from
weathered and
eroded rock that is
deposited and
cemented together
into new rock
The oldest known rock lies in Canada. The
Acasta gneiss, a metamorphic rock, is 3.96
billion years old.
There is no beginning or end to the Rock Cycle!
