INFLUENCES ON
CAREER/SUCCESS
When visiting Bali, Indonesia, Taymor
watched a tradition ceremony held by
the male elders of the village,
performed in the moonlight where
she believes that the energy and
absorption with which these elderly
men performed this ritual, without an
audience, for purely spiritual
devotions, has inspired all of her
work.
MOST FAMOUS WORKS
• The Broadway production of the famous
Disney animated film “Lion King”, where
Julie Taymor directed and co-designed
over 100 costumes of masks and
animals.
• “Frida”, which received 6 Oscar
nominations and received Oscars for its
imaginative make-up design and for Elliot
Goldenthal's musical talents.
HER SPECIAL
QUALITIES
•
Miss Taymor combined the cultural and tribal aspects
she experienced while traveling all over the world with
her costumes and directing to create a whole new
outlook on the ever-expanding possibilities of theatre.
•
Taymor turned down the idea of using bodysuits and
masks. She proposed clothing the actors in traditional
African costumes, with animal masks worn on their
heads
•
Julie released a new film version of Shakespeare's “The
Tempest”, with actress Helen Mirren in the role of the
sorcerer Prospero.
