Procedures of the Congregation
Ar ddechrau’r seremoni darllenir y Cyhoeddiad gan un o’r
myfyrwyr sy’n graddio. Mae’n cydnabod cyflawniadau a
llwyddiannau’r myfyrwyr sy’n graddio, ac yn datgan y gobaith
y byddant yn cyfrannu at wybodaeth a budd cenhedlaethau i
ddod, ac wynebu’r heriau sy’n wynebu ein byd.
The ceremony begins with the reading of the Proclamation by
one of the graduating students. It recognises the achievements
and success of the graduating students, and expresses the hope
that they will contribute to knowledge and wellbeing for future
generations, and confront the challenges that face our world.
Bydd ymgeiswyr am raddau dechreuol (israddedig) ac uwch
(uwchraddedig) yn cael eu cyflwyno ym mhob seremoni. Fe’u
cyflwynir i’r Is-Ganghellor yn unigol. Fel arfer, Pennaeth yr Adran
berthnasol fydd yn cyflwyno’r myfyrwyr. Arweinir myfyrwyr
i’r llwyfan lle cânt eu cyflwyno i’r Is-Ganghellor, a darllenir eu
henwau. Bydd yr Is-Ganghellor yn datgan y fformiwla briodol
i’r grŵp, ac yna byddant yn dychwelyd i’w seddau. Ar ôl i bob
grŵp fynd yn ôl i’w seddau, bydd yr Is-Ganghellor yn cyfeirio’r
fformiwla priodol at y grŵp cyfan, ac fe gânt hefyd eu cyfarch
gan y Canghellor neu’r Dirprwy Ganghellor.
In each ceremony there will be candidates for initial
(undergraduate) and higher (postgraduate) degrees. Candidates
will be presented individually to the Vice-Chancellor. For
each degree the presenter will normally be the Head of the
appropriate Department. Candidates will be conducted to the
stage by Marshals where they will be presented to the ViceChancellor and their names will be read out. After each group
have returned to their seats, the Vice-Chancellor will address
the appropriate formula to the whole group, and they will also
receive a greeting from the Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor.

The formulae used during the ceremony may be translated as
follows:

Prifysgol ni a ennillodd radd…..
Cyfarchiad yr Is-Ganghellor –
Trwy awdurdod y Brifysgol a ymddiriedwyd i mi, derbyniaf

Bydd y Canghellor neu’r Dirprwy Ganghellor yn cyfarch y
graddedigion â’r geiriau Boed eich gofal yn wastad dros lwydd ac anrhydedd ein
Prifysgol a’n Gwlad.
Yn achos y graddau uwch, fe geir cyfarchiad gwahanol, yn
mynegi llawenydd y Brifysgol o dderbyn y graddedig yn Athro
neu’n Ddoethur. Bydd grwpiau bychain o ddarpar raddedigion
am raddau uwch yn cael eu cyfarch gan yr Is-Ganghellor a’r
Canghellor neu’r Dirprwy Ganghellor ar y llwyfan, ac yna
byddant yn troi i wynebu’r gynulleidfa i’w cydnabod.

The Vice-Chancellor’s formula –
Trwy awdurdod y Brifysgol a ymddiriedwyd i mi, derbyniaf
chwi i radd….. ac i holl freiniau’r radd hon.
By the authority of the University, entrusted to me, I admit you
to the degree of ….. and to all the privileges of this degree.
The Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor greets the graduates with the
words –
Boed eich gofal yn wastad dros lwydd ac anrhydedd ein
Prifysgol a’n Gwlad.
May your care ever be for the success and good name of our
University and Country.
In the case of higher degrees there is a different form of
greeting, stating that the University is pleased to admit the
graduate as a Master or Doctor. Smaller groups of graduands
for higher degrees may be addressed by the Vice-Chancellor
and the Chancellor or Pro-Chancellor on the stage, and will then
turn to the audience for acknowledgement.
