The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern, employs over 150 staff, provides undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to clinical epidemiology and public health. We have a vacant position in Infectious disease modelling (100%) In the Sexual and Reproductive Health Research Group. You will work in a team of epidemiologists, infectious disease modellers and statisticians on the project Epidemiology and Mathematical Modeling for Infectious disease Control (EpideMMIC), funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Swiss Cancer Research. This project is investigating the impact of screening, vaccination, and rapid diagnostic tests on the control of sexually transmitted infections both in Switzerland and internationally. We aim to combine the best methods in epidemiology and in infectious disease modelling to improve public health decision-making. Duties and responsibilities • Develop, parameterise, and analyse mathematical models of infectious disease dynamics • Address research questions about the effectiveness of interventions to control sexually transmitted infections • Support PhD students in infectious disease modelling • Collaborate with co-investigators in Switzerland and abroad Qualifications and skills • Qualifications and skills • PhD in biology, physics, mathematics, statistics, epidemiology or a relevant discipline • A high level of skill and independence in working with transmission models or other population dynamic models • Strong programming skills, preferably using R • Good knowledge of English The post is available from 1st January 2017 and is offered for two years in the first instance. The salary is on the scales of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
