VOCABULARY REVIEW ACTIVITY
Pre-Cut the strips and place the vocabulary words in a ziploc bag and the
definitions in a separate bag. If you use a different color of paper for each of
the sets, they are easy to sort if they get mixed between groups during the
investigation. Be sure to make copies of the “VOCABULARY NOTE SHEET ” to
handout to students in part 3.
PART 1: Word Sort:
1. Hand out the baggies with the words only (hold back the definitions). Have
students complete an open sort with no categories given. Students must
identify a label/name for the categories.
2. Allow students to share their categories and reasoning.
PART 2: Definition Match Predictions
1. Hand students the baggies with the definitions and ask them as a group to
decide how to match the words and definitions.
2. Check in with groups to make sure they have correct matches. Once
students have matched, handout the VOCABULARY NOTE SHEET for
students to transfer their answers onto the notes.
PART 3: Whole group review
1. During this time, go over the notes as a class asking students to add some
facts and/or picture representations to complete the sheet.

A series of points that extends in
opposite directions without end
Line Segment
Part of a line with two
endpoints
Vertex
the point where two or more
lines intersect, or where two
sides of a polygon intersect, or
the point of intersection for two
rays
