• Mass number = sum of neutrons +

• Isotope = atom that exhibits variation

• Silicates
• Most important mineral group
• Comprise most rock-forming minerals
• Very abundant due to large percent of
silicon and oxygen in Earth’s crust

smaller silicon ion
