Placement – Sales and Marketing The Roles Our Sales and Marketing professionals work across our entire business, working closely with colleagues to align products closely to customer needs. Functioning as the link between the customer and the supply chain, they galvanise departments from manufacturing to distribution into meeting our clients’ needs, via a unique ability to listen, interpret and communicate complex requirements. Their creativity and professionalism ensure that our products and services are offered to customers attractively and effectively, with a constant emphasis on first-class service and support. The Sales and Marketing division is split into three distinct areas: Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. We’re looking for commercially-minded, client-focused individuals in each of these functions. We’ll support you as you get to grips with our business and hone your sales and marketing practice, developing into the kind of future leader who can drive our business forward. To succeed in our Sales roles, you’ll need to be personable and charismatic, with the credibility to foster and develop strong working relationships with clients and internal colleagues. Tata Steel operates in a complex marketplace and you’ll need to swiftly establish an encyclopaedic knowledge of our products and services. Perform well and you’ll be rewarded with early responsibility; working on large contracts with high-profile customers such as BMW and Jaguar Land Rover. Your numeracy and attention to detail will ensure that things run smoothly and effectively. Professionals working in Marketing or other specialist commercial functions provide vital business intelligence. Harnessing and capitalising on the power of our brand relies on a solid understanding of business drivers, both internally and within our client base. Your incisive analysis and inspiring communications will ensure that we can respond quickly and effectively to a shifting commercial landscape. Our Customer Service people recognise the importance of a first-rate client experience. Their role extends far beyond hand-holding. They are decision-makers, problem-solvers, project managers and diplomats. Their actions are grounded in hard data, which they analyse and interpret before making informed decisions that nurture relationships and push our business forward. They know when to speak and when to listen and they have the people skills that bring everything together. The Prospects We employ over 1,800 sales and marketing employees across 23 different countries, which means that you’ll have plenty of scope to grow your skills and experience in a variety of different business environments. And with a global customer base there’s even the potential for international travel. Our graduate training programme will offer you unparalleled exposure to each of the key areas of our Sales and Marketing function. A robust mixture of mentoring, on-the-job training and structured learning modules will help you to develop expertise in fields including account management and planning, negotiation and selling value, customer service and building relationships, market insight and market strategy. Soon, you’ll be ready to take on key accountability within the Sales and Marketing team, as customer facing Account Managers, Marketing Managers, Customer Support Managers and in other specialised commercial roles. The Requirements You must be on track to achieve a 2:2 Degree, ideally in languages, economics, humanities or business, although we’ll also consider technical disciplines like engineering, manufacturing or science, and subjects such as finance. We’ll be looking for evidence of your interest in Sales and Marketing, possibly through modules you’ve studied on Marketing, Marketing Analysis or Business Finance. Whatever your background, you’ll be commerciallyminded with a strong understanding of business drivers and the ability to build, maintain and develop strong, proactive relationships across the customer network. In such a geographically diverse business, mobility is important. Some of our customerfacing roles will need you to be on the ground, liaising directly with customers; the ability to speak one or more foreign languages (such as Dutch, German or Spanish) will therefore be a distinct advantage. As part of a global organisation, it’s also vital that you understand and engage with our culture. We’re passionate about achievement, excellence and breakthrough thinking, and people at every level here have a thirst for developing their knowledge. You’ll embrace change with enthusiasm, take ownership of issues and inspire others towards a culture of innovation. Wherever your interest or specialism lies there is a position within the industry that will enable you to develop throughout your career with a diversity you will not find anywhere else.
