June 1, 2013 Volume 1, Issue 1 Office of Oncology Clinical Research Welcome to our first edition Clinical Trials At any given time, Inspira Medical Center Vineland, Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion is involved in more than 25 clinical trials covering a wide range of cancers and related conditions. Our commitment to research has given hundreds of cancer patients in our area access to cutting-edge medicine. In addition, research fosters collaboration and learning opportunities for our oncologists, surgeons, specialists and general practitioners. Partnership with Fox Chase Cancer Center We established a partnership with Fox Chase Cancer Center in 1995. This collaboration enables us to: Work with specialists via video teleconferences, including a GU Tumor Board, to review treatment plans Provide quick and convenient referral services to and from Fox Chase Cancer Center Participate in national clinical trials Comprehensive Cancer Research Our researchers are dedicated to moving the innovative ideas of today from the research lab to the bedside as quickly and safely as possible. We have conducted research that studies: Reducing cancer recurrence Stopping tumor growth Finding more effective cancer treatments Reducing side effects Highlighted Study We are pleased to offer patients access to a large-scale national colon cancer prevention study called NSABP P-5. The purpose of the NSABP P-5 study is to find out if rosuvastatin (also called Crestor®) might prevent the occurrence of polyps in the colon and rectum, colon cancer recurrence, and development of a new colon cancer in patients with a history of colon cancer.
