2. STUDENT ASSESSMENT
Prior knowledge
Students will have a prior
knowledge of career portfolio
contents. Teacher will check
for accuracy and completeness
of the basic career portfolio
contents before continuing to
web site development. These
contents will include: resume,
cover letter, sample interviews,
applications, soft skills, and
thank you letters.
Ongoing throughout lesson
Students will be using peer review
techniques to assess each other’s
portfolios as they progress through the
assignments. The teacher will also give
feedback to help direct students through
the portfolio creation process.
By the end of the lesson
Students will make a final
presentation to the entire class
of their completed web site.
The teacher will use a rubric to
determine if proper web design
techniques were used and all
elements were included.
3. LEARNING ACTIVITIES/INSTRUCTION
Introduction (hook)
What students are doing
Conclusion
1. Students’ attention will be
gained by showing student
and personal examples of
e-career portfolios.
1. Students will begin by brainstorming
various web design possibilities and
drawing a sketch of their web site
using a production storyboard.
1. After peer reviews have
been conducted and final
edits made, students will
present their e-portfolios to
their classmates.
2. A class discussion will be
held about the benefits of
giving yourself on online
presence in the 21st
century job market.
2. Students will then create a template
that will be used for all pages in their
web site.
3. Students will be given a
timeline to see the various
parts of the e-career
portfolio creation
assignment.
4. There will also be a rubric
provided to show what
areas students should
focus on.
3. Once the template is created,
students will create various pages
from this template, including a
resume, career, skills, interview, and
interests page.
2. Also, the teacher will post
the web sites on the county
server for a year after
graduation, unless the
student requests that the
portfolio remain longer and
the teacher will try to meet
this request.
4. Once pages are created, students
will link them together and insert
relevant content on each page.
5. Students will use a peer review
process to provide feedback.
Accommodations
Extra support: Individual attention will be paid to
those students who need special accommodations.
The special education teacher will be provided a copy
of the lesson plan to allow for accommodations to be
made for those students with Individualized Education
Plans.
Enrichment or early finishers: Early finishers can
use extra time to put special effects on their portfolio
and/or add additional projects and samples of work to
highlight them further. These students will also be
encouraged to assist other students with problems.
Various learning styles: The teacher will provide a
variety of teaching materials including written
instructions along with verbal instructions. A rubric
and timeline will be provided for those students
needing more structure and individual assistance will
be provided to those students who need hands-on
instruction.
Limited English proficiency: Translation web sites
and dictionaries may be used to assist these students.

Materials and Resources

be used to create HTML coded documents.
3. Photo editing software is preferred, such as
Adobe Fireworks or Photoshop.

Research/Best Practices/Strategy
This lesson plan is best completed at the end of the
Design, Multimedia, and Web Technologies course as
a final project.
4. WRAP-UP (5-10 min)
Evidence of student learning/understanding
Students will present their portfolios to the class.
The teacher will lead a discussion on the benefit of
posting these portfolios online and how they will have
access to them for at least one year. Teacher will
explain that if a student wishes for their portfolio to
remain longer, they will need to contact the teacher to
request this at a later date.
Homework
The only homework required for this project is to
brainstorm possible career choices and designs for
the portfolio itself.
Also, once the portfolio is created, students should
insert their e-portfolio address onto resumes and tell
future potential employers to check it out.
