AMERICAN COLLEGE THEATER FESTIVAL
The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is sponsored
by the U.S. Department of Education; Dr. Gerald and Paula McNichols
Foundation; The Honorable Stuart Bernstein and Wilma E. Bernstein;
the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund; and the National Committee for
the Performing Arts.
This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College
Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education
program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater
production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students
and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving
scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors,
dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at
both the regional and national levels.
Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for inclusion
at the KCACTF regional festival and can also be considered for invitation to the KCACTF national festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.
Last year more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF
involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this
production, the Department of Music is sharing in the KCACTF goals
to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in
college and university theaters across the nation.
A Note from the Director
Welcome to Berlin!
The city of Berlin in 1929-1930 during which Kander and Ebb’s
Cabaret is set was an exciting, vibrant, artistic, and cosmopolitan city.
The second largest city in Europe at the time, with a booming
entertainment industry of film, theatre, dance halls, and cabarets,
along with a thriving avant garde scene of expressionist art, Berlin
was, at the same time, a city still crippled by the wounds of war,
hyperinflation, and skyrocketing unemployment. It was a city seething
with nationalist pride, racial resentments, bigotry, extreme poverty,
and the tensions of a fragile democracy facing extremes of political
violence from multiple factions.
We experience the city through the eyes of Clifford Bradshaw, a sexually ambivalent young American writer traveling Europe in search of
inspiration, a character modeled on the autobiographical stories set
forth in Christopher Isherwood’s The Berlin Stories. With Clifford, we
as an audience are made increasingly aware of the ugly political
underbelly of this city that lies beneath the wildness of its theatrical
confidence and sexual freedom. We witness the lives of people
scarred by war and the hard experiences of life, who dare to dream of
something better, and then decide they have no choice but to
suppress those dreams. We see Clifford grow in awareness and a
sense of responsibility, as we all accompany the Emcee on an
increasingly disturbing tour of Berlin’s darker side, where all that is
beautiful becomes twisted and dark. Berlin in 1930 is a fascinating
city of paradoxes, a city to break one’s heart.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST
TOMM KNIGHTLEE (Emcee) - A WSU Liberal Studies major with a minor in Music,
Tomm is happy to be back on stage as the Emcee in Cabaret after a 2-year hiatus
from theater, where he focused his time on his wife and the birth of his 2 children.
Tomm holds a Musical Theater Training Certificate from the American Musical and
Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in NYC. Favorite past roles, ranging from community to
professional theater, include Jason in Bare (Opera House Players), Hot Blades Harry
in Urinetown: The Musical (OHP), Roger in Rent (OHP), Ethan in The Full Monty
(Majestic Theater), Foley Artist in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play (Majestic Theater), Pippin in Pippin (OHP), and Man 2 in Songs for a New World (OHP). Tomm
would like to thank Sabine, Mary, Kathy, and Scott for the opportunity to portray one
of his dream roles, the rest of the cast and crew for a more-than-worthwhile
experience, and all of his family and friends for their everlasting love and support.
He dedicates his performance to his gorgeous wife Jessie, miraculous children
Kieva and Judah, and to anyone who ever had the courage to dream big.
JOHNNY GORDON (Clifford Bradshaw) is a freshman and is absolutely thrilled to be
part of The Music Departments’ production of Cabaret. He is a theatre major who is
a member of the WSU Night Owls a-capella group, and Musical Theatre Guild. His
first experience with musical theatre was in his sophomore year of high school
where he was a tap dancer in the ensemble in Anything Goes. He also played a the
goofy president of a hairspray company, Harriman F. Spritzer, in Hairspray the musical, and Ronnie Shaughnessey, a crazy son coming home from war, in the play The
House of Blue Leaves during his senior year in high school. During his time here at
Westfield, he was in MTG’s production of Legally Blonde: The Musical where he
played Sundeep Padamadan, a rich law student, and the musical Changing Minds
where he was an eccentric gothic teenager named Garrett. He is absolutely thrilled
to be a part of this phenomenal production and has gotten to work with an amazing
production team, director, music director, and cast! He is so thankful for all of the
new friends he has made and for the family who supports him so well. Break legs
everyone, you will be fantastic!
EMILY STEWART (Fraulein Schneider) is a transfer student from upstate New York.
She is currently studying music history and performance here at Westfield State
University. During the last three years she has performed in Measure for Measure,
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Hansel and Gretel, and The Billy
Goats Gruff. At Westfield State University Emily is a member of the Festival Chorus,
Music Theater Workshop, and is the Director of the Night Owls which is a student
run a-cappella group. Emily is very happy to be a part of this experience as it her
first full length musical with a featured role.
LEWIS PACHECO (Herr
Schultz) is a junior Music Major concentrating in Piano Per(
formance and Music Education. Earlier this semester he performed on this same
stage as a pianist in his own junior recital, and has also played for MTG's
"Urinetown", "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown", and "Legally Blonde". He was also
a cast member in the WSU Music Department's production of Sweeney Todd and co
-starred as Leaf Coneybear in last year's "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee". He is honored to take part in this production and wishes his cast-mates and
fellow musicians the best of luck!
KERRY TUROK (Franlein Kost) s a junior here at Westfield State University. Currently she is majoring in Vocal Music Education. This is Kerry’s second show with the
music department and she is extremely exited! In the past she has been in The 25
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy), The Wedding Singer (Julia), The Music
Man (Eulalie Shinn), Honk (Ida), The Wizard of Oz (Dorothy) and so many more. She
is so thankful to have worked with such a wonderful cast. She would like to thank
everyone who has helped her to get to where she is. She couldn't have done it with
out the love and support from her amazingly talented directors, friends and family!

DANIELLE COLLETTE (Sally Bowles) is a junior and Secondary English Ed. major here
at WSU. This is her second show with the WSU Music Theatre Department, previously appearing in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Goodbye Chorus). She
has also performed alongside WSU's student run Musical Theatre Guild
in Curtains (Jackie Harmon), The Wedding Singer (Featured Dancer/
Cher), Urinetown (Soupy Sue), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Violet) and she
recently choreographed their productions of Changing Minds and Legally Blonde.
Danielle would like to thank the entire cast, crew, Sabine, Scott, Mary and Ernie for
all of your hard work and dedication. She would also like to thank her MTG family
for always having faith, her family for defying all odds to see every single show no
matter how small the part, and especially her Madoo for believing 20 years ago that
she'd finally get here -- this one's for you.
AUGUSTUS MARINAK (Ernst Ludwig) is a student of the theatre arts program at
Westfield State University. Outside of Westfield State, Gus has performed with
community theatre groups such as Little Theatre of Manchester, The Windsor
Jesters, and The Red Door Theatre. He is very happy to be a part of Cabaret.
STEPHÁN CASTROCASTRO-BARBOZA
BARBOZA (1st Waiter/Ensemble) is a senior Psychology major at
Westfield State. He is an avid member of the Musical Theatre Guild on campus
along with the Night Owls a–cappella group. Stephán is super excited to be in his
third consecutive WSU Music Department production. He was previously seen in
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as Beadle Bamford and 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as Mitch Mahoney. He would love to thank
Mary, Scott, and Sabine for helping me grow into the talented person that I am today over the years. He would also love to thank Dani, Ally, Tessa, Dan, Ryan, Jeff,
Liz, Heri, Wilson, Meghan and others for being the best friends a guy could have.
Last but not least, Stephán would like to thank his Mom, for being there throughout
it all and for giving him all the love and support in the world. Enjoy the show!
ELIZABETH LABAK (Two Ladies/Ensemble) is a junior here at Westfield. She is studying Psychology with a minor in Sociology. On campus she is the Vice President of
Programming and Publicity for RHA and actively involved with the WSU Dance Company as both a dancer and choreographer. Dancing is a huge part who she is and
what she loves to do. Her "theatre career" includes a small claim to fame at Foothills Theater, in her hometown of Worcester, as Alanna in Rumplestiltskin. She also
had a hand in theatre in high school. Her favorite roles include Mrs. Frank in The
Diary of Anne Frank and Grandma Tzitel in Fiddler on the Roof. She just wanted to
say that she is extremely excited to get back into theatre and be involved in this
production of Cabaret. Finally, she would really like to thank her amazing family,
friends, and boyfriend who are always there for her and encourage her in every way
possible. She loves you all!
JESSICA MCFADDEN (Two Ladies/Ensemble) is a second year student at Westfield
State University studying Special Education and Music. She participated in The 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee last year. Jessica is also in WHIP, the Improvisation club at school. She played Enid Hoopes in Westfield’s Musical Theatre Guild
fall performance of Legally Blonde. She is so happy and grateful to be part of this
wonderful performance. Thank you to everyone that supported me though out this
experience. “This was a wonderful experience and hopes to be part of it next year.”

ADAM GUILLERMO (Ensemble) is a first-year student at Westfield State University;
and he is a vocal music major. In high school years, he has been part of musicals
such as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Bye Bye Birdie, Oklahoma, How to
Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Annie. He is also in the Night Owls,
the a-capella singing group on campus. He is excited to be in Cabaret this semester,
and hopes he will be in other musicals to come.
PATRICE METCALF (Telephone Girl, Ensemble) is a freshman vocal music major.
This is her first musical here at Westfield State University. She has had various roles
onstage, including The King in "These Foolish Kings", The Curl Girl in "Beauty and
the Beast", Mrs. Soames in "Our Town", Agatha in "Guys and Dolls", an Oompaloompa in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", and an Orphan in "Annie". She
is very excited to play the part of The Telephone Girl. Patrice would like to thank Dr.
Mary Brwon Bonacci for her vocal coaching and for letting her join the cast last mi-
nute, and her friends for dealing with her random outbursts of Kit Kat Club dancing
outside of rehearsals.
JENNIFER GUIMOND (Ensemble) This is Jennifer’s first show with the music department. She has previously been in two MTG shows, Legally Blonde the Musical and
Changing Minds. Everyone in the cast and crew are so amazing, and it has been a
pleasure working with everyone. Jennifer is currently a sophomore at Westfield. She
is studying early childhood education. Jennifer would like to thank the entire cast
and crew for making this such an amazing and memorable experience. She would
also like to thank her family, friends, and roommate for supporting her and dealing
with her crazy schedule
TYRELL PYATT (Ensemble) is a Liberal Studies Major with concentrations in Art,
Theatre, and Communications. This is his final semester at Westfield State
University with an anticipated graduation in May. He appeared in a few Musical Theatre Guild (MTG) Shows as Mr. Caldwell B. Cladwell in UrineTown, George in The
Wedding Singer and Franklin in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. He would like to
thank everyone for giving him another opportunity to share his passion with people.
SARA PUESCHEL (Ensemble) is a transfer student from Holyoke Community
College where she earned her Associates in music degree. She came to Westfield
State to continue her education and earn a Bachelor's degree with a concentration
in Jazz Studies. She hopes to graduate in 2014, unless the world decides to end
before that. With the weight of being a music major on her shoulders, she really
just wanted to go back to her basic love for music and sing and dance her heart out.
Musical theater is a great place to find this, and a great place to make friends.
JAMES ZISSULIS (Ensemble) is a freshman and Theater Arts major at WSU, James
is thrilled to be appearing in Cabaret here at Westfield! This is James's second show
here at school where he recently appeared in Legally Blonde as Kiki/Carlos. James
won an award last year as best supporting actor for his role as Mrs. Mears in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Marblehead High School. In his many years on stage in both
North Shore community and high school theater, some of James’ other favorite
roles have included, Chicago’s Fred Causley, Hairspray’s Thad, Rent’s Steve, Once
on this Island’s Story Teller, and West Side Story’s Bernardo, James looks forward to
many more productions at WSU and wants to thank his directors and the talented
cast and crew for their hard work and encouragement in making his first WSU show
a memorable experience.
SABINE MACRIS KLEIN (Director) teaches for the Theatre Arts Program in the Department of English. Dr. Klein has a Ph.D. from the City University of New York Graduate Center, and began her teaching career at the State University of New York at
Oneonta before joining the faculty at Westfield State University. As part of her doc-
toral program, she spent a year studying with the Graduate Program in Theatre at
the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. She has extensive performance background in spoken theatre, musical theatre and opera, having performed
or directed with a variety of professional and semi-professional theatre companies.
These include the Los Angeles Theatre Workshop, Glimmerglass Opera, Orpheus
Theatre (Oneonta, NY), and Cooperstown Theatre Festival. In recent years, she directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Importance of Being Earnest for the WSU
Theatre Arts Program and Sweeney Todd for the WSU Music Department.
Dr. Klein is a contributing author to The American as Foreigner on Stage: Portraits of
the United States in International Drama (McFarland 2009). She has presented her
research in German theatre and the history of women in theatre at the German
Studies Association, the New England Modern Language Association, the American
Society for Theatre Research, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
She has published in Western European Stages and New England Theatre Journal.
Dr. Klein currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the New England Theatre Conference.
SCOTT BAILEY (Music Director/Conductor)) is staff accompanist/coach at Westfield
State University where he serves the accompanying needs of Music Department. He
has served as accompanist at UMass Amherst, Massachusetts College of Liberal
Arts, and as Director of Choral Activities at Bay Path College. He was the choir director for the Bay Path College Festival Choir trips to Prague, Munich, and Salzburg. He
served as the music director at the First Congregational Church of North Adams,
UCC, having coordinated the North County Music Series and acted as director of the
North County Ecumenical Choir. Scott has been certified as a Colleague of the
American Guild of Organists and is a member of the Berkshire and Springfield Chapters. He is currently a substitute organist in Berkshire County and the Pioneer Valley. He accompanies the Hampshire Choral Society in Northampton, MA and is a
freelance pianist, organist, and music director throughout western Massachusetts.
He has been the musical director for performances at Bay Path College and Drury
High School. Past performances include Sweeney Todd, Once Upon a Mattress,
Phantom of the Country Opera, Working, Lucky Stiff, Little Shop of Horrors, and The
Wizard of Oz.
MARY BROWN BONACCI,
BONACCI (Vocal Director) a Kansas City native, has sung mezzosoprano roles with opera companies and orchestras across the United States including Des Moines Metro, Pine Mountain Music Festival, and Utah Festival Opera,
Kansas City Lyric Opera. She has appeared with the Olathe Community Orchestra,
Decatur Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and Kaw
Valley Symphony. She traveled overseas in 2008 to perform and teach with Opera
Period in Excideuil, France. In New England, Mary has appeared with the Granite
State Opera (Rosina, Mercedes, Mary Stone) Salt Marsh Opera (Suzuki) and as soloist with the Masterworks Chorale of Boston (Messiah, Haydn 2nd Mass in C) Arcadia
Players (Messiah, Weinachts Oratorium, Lord Nelson Mass) and Hampshire Choral
Society (Missa Cellensis, Messiah, Bach B minor Mass). Her other roles include Dorabella, (Cosi fan Tutte) Regina, (Regina), and Carmen (Carmen). She performs actively as a recitalist and with chamber ensembles in Western Massachusetts and
beyond. She holds degrees from Emporia State University (BM, MM) and the University of Kansas (DMA). . Currently, she is assistant professor, directing music theatre
workshop, teaching applied voice and vocal pedagogy at Westfield State University.
KATHLEEN DELANEY (Choreographer) A transplant from New York City, she has appeared on Broadway, National tours, off Broadway, Television, Films, Industrials and
as a Voice Over artist. Her favorite roles include Mazeppa in Gypsy with Betty Buckley, Ginger in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Gertrude in Hamlet, Shelia in A
Chorus Line, Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Arkadina in The Seagull, to
name a few. Presently Kathleen can be heard on Viva Pinata as the voice of Tina
Twingersnap, Rouge the Bat on Sonic X, Tania on Yugio GX and numerous television
commercials. Her choreography and directing can be seen on stage, screen and
music videos. She is a proud member of AEA, SAG & AFTRA.
ERNEST W. IANNACCONE (Producer, Set & Lighting Design) is the Technical Director at Westfield State University where he has produced and designed the sets and
lights for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee , Amahl and the Night Visitors and lighting for Sweeney Todd.. Ernie has a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from
New York University in Lighting Design and a BA in Music Education from New Jersey City University,
OLIVIA DUMAS (Stage Manager) is a sophomore Special Education major and Music
Minor. This is her first Music Department show as Stage Manager. She is involved
in a lot on campus and is glad she got the opportunity to manage this wonderful
cast and work wit this impressive directors. She would like to thank her family for
always supporting her endeavors, her amazing friends, and most importantly Alex
Potter for being the most incredible assistant stage manager she could ever ask
for. Thanks for coming and enjoy the show!
ALEX POTTER (Asst. Stage Manager) is a Junior Elementary Education major and is
excited to be a part of Cabaret. Alex has previously been involved in the Music Department's productions of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She has also been involved in MTG's productions of Curtains, The Wedding Singer, Urinetown, You're a Good Man Charlie
Brown, Legally Blonde: The Musical, and Changing Minds. She would like to thank
her family for always supporting her and her friends for being wonderful, amazing,
and always being there, I love you all so much. Break legs everyone!

Notes from the Music DIrector
I was fortunate to be involved in a production of Cabaret nearly ten
years ago during my undergraduate years. It was a show that made a
significant impact on me and quite possibly helped to keep me involved in music theater ever since. It might have been the joy of
watching the dance numbers like “The Money Song” or the “Kick
Line” coming alive during the performances. It might have been the
sweetly sentimental “Married” sung in earnest by Schneider and
Schultz or the haunting “I Don’t Care Much” sung by the Emcee at a
point when everything is unraveling for the characters. Maybe it was
that juxtaposition between the cheerful nature of the musical numbers and the dark and ominous story hiding beneath every song. It
made a deep impression on me then and I feel privileged to bring this
production to a new audience here in Westfield.
My thanks go to my colleagues Dr. Sabine Klein and Dr. Mary BrownBonacci for their direction, guidance, and vision for this production.
Thanks also to Kathleen Delaney for bringing our dances to life and
inspiring our students to put forth the best that they can do. Of
course, a big thank you goes to Ernie Iannaccone who is the man with
the most roles in this production, many of which are so seamless that
they go unnoticed. Thank you for keeping all of us on the right path.
I hope you enjoy this production of Cabaret as much as all of us enjoyed presenting it to you.
