The Xavier Theatre Academy Season Three, Show One – THE LION KING JR - June 2016 Hello!! Thank you for your interest in the Xavier Theatre Academy! Please read on for some important information and a few forms to be printed and completed before the audition. Please note that the Disney Corporation has developed “The Lion King Experience” a supplemental curriculum touching on all aspects of theatre performance and production and helping the students prepare for performances. Participation in this curriculum is required for students who wish to be cast in “The Lion King Jr.” Classes will be held on six Tuesday evenings. Please see the calendar section of this document for exact dates and times. Sign up for an audition time on the Xavier Theatre website, www.xaviertheatre.com. Singer’s auditions are scheduled in five-minute time slots. Students will also participate in a dance audition. Your overall time at the auditions should be about one hour, give or take a few minutes. Please arrive 10 – 15 minutes prior to your audition time. All auditions will be held in the Fine Arts Center at Xavier High School, 1600 W. Prospect Avenue, Appleton. Please enter via doors 1 or 17, both of which are adjacent to the main parking lot west of the theatre. Follow the bright green signs to the audition area. Please be sure to wear shoes and clothing that are appropriate for movement. Remember: audition lyrics and lines do not need to be memorized! We will provide an accompaniment for the song “Circle of Life”, in the key you choose. Please be sure of the key you want prior to your audition. The choices may be found on the audition Signup Genius page. Please note that the general auditions will determine who is in the cast. Callback auditions and final casting for specific roles will occur later in spring. What to expect at the audition: Before arriving for your audition, spend 5-10 minutes singing and warming up your voice. Please arrive at least ten minutes before your audition time. Please check in at the audition table. Your forms should be completed prior to the audition so that you can turn them in upon arrival. You may have a short wait before your audition. This is a good time to review your song or lines and relax so that you will do your best when you sing and read for the audition staff. When it’s your turn to audition, you will enter the room where the audition panel is waiting. The audition panel consists of the director, the musical director and possible one intern. This is the time to take a deep breath and try to relax and enjoy performing. It’s natural to be a bit nervous. Your job is to do the very best you can. No one will be in the room but you and the audition panel. After you sing, the same judges will hear you read the audition lines. Be sure to read the instructions included with the audition lines beforehand and read with as much character as you can. Once you are done in the audition room, we’ll have you learn a short dance taught by the choreographer. The dance audition is a little easier because you get to do it with at least one other person! Please be sure to fill out the forms on the following pages and bring them to the audition with you. NOTE: All forms are being sent as Word documents to allow you to complete on your computer. Please double check page layout settings to ensure that each form is kept to one page in length. Print each document separately as a one-sided page. We just can’t wait to see you at auditions! Statement of purpose: The objective of the Xavier Theatre Academy is to involve serious, committed students entering grades five through ten in a fully-staged play or musical using professional production practices while educating them in all aspects of theatre production. Student expectations: Students are expected to participate fully in this endeavor and to allow others to do the same. Actions contrary to this goal are not acceptable and will result in consequences up to and including dismissal from the program with no refund. The Academy Director has the final say in all issues pertaining to the academy operation, casting, and duties/responsibilities during performances. Please be advised that the participation in the academy is based on audition and availability. This is not a “no-cut” audition. Please be certain your child understands this before auditioning. Costume Policy: Most costumes are provided by the school. However, the following personal items are required for performers cast in The Lion King Jr: Flesh –colored dance sandals, ballet or jazz slippers (details will be provided to those who are cast in the show once characters are assigned). Undergarments are also the responsibility of the student. Additionally, the hairstyle worn at auditions should be maintained unless you are informed otherwise. Children should not have drastic changes to hair style (short cuts, coloring, perm, etc) without a consultation with the director. Some modern styles will need to be modified. Tuition: Academy tuition is $315.00. Tuition for the required spring curriculum is $35. New this year, payments will be accepted through Showtix4u – our ticketing agent. A nominal service fee will apply. Full payment details will be included in the acceptance letter sent to students who are cast in the show. Scholarships: There are no scholarships available directly from the theatre academy. However, some employers and school systems do offer scholarship opportunities. The academy will gladly provide documentation to assist you in securing such scholarships. Additional Information: All casting is based on the expectation that the student will be able to learn the material and perform it proficiently, behave in a cooperative, appropriate manner, and fulfill the attendance requirements outlined in this document. The student’s continued participation in the production is dependent upon these conditions. Auditions are open to any student who meets the audition requirements. Please review the schedules listed below and indicate any conflicts accurately. It is very important that we are aware of the student’s availability during scheduled sessions. An offer to participate will generally be made only to students with full availability. All students and parents are expected to honor the time commitment indicated on this form. Our expectation is that Academy attendance should take precedence over conflicts (such as sports tournaments) that arise after a student has committed to this program. Changes in availability for any reason after this form is submitted negates a performer’s agreement with the academy and may result in reduction of the student’s participation in the show or dismissal from the cast with no refund.
