Network Technician Job Title Code: Location: Hours: Time in Title: 4603 NJ 40 30 Months Summary The Network Technician may be responsible for installing, repairing, testing, turning up and performing preventative maintenance on telephone switching and transport equipment. The Network Technician may be required to interact with customers to resolve and close reports for consumer, business, ISDN, and special circuits. Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records and taking any corrective action as needed. General Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: A. Reviewing and interpreting Work orders, Network and circuit diagrams. B. Ability to troubleshoot using flow charts for power plants and rectifiers. C. Keeping a detailed written and/or mechanized record of work activities. D. Analyzing troubles, testing, repairing and turning up of customer circuits. E. Installing, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on telephone switching, transport, power equipment at both private establishments and at locations other than regular assigned central office locations which may require driving a company or personal vehicle between locations. Identifying all power plants. F. Referring service problems for testing and/or dispatch. G. Removing or placing connections on wire distributing frames using solder, wirewrap, and punch down terminal connections. H. Operating and maintaining power equipment including central office generators for power failures. I. Maintaining equipment inventory. Package, ship and track return of defective equipment. J. Spends most of shift walking, standing, climbing ladders and or sitting at a desk or terminal. K. May work where temperature varies from room to room with continuous machine noise or high noise levels. Revised 8/29/2010 L. May be exposed to chemicals and gases when performing some work functions. M. May work in a centralized environment such as a control center or work independently with minimum supervision. N. May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company. P. Operating a computer terminal and modifying/analyzing some software programs may be required. Basic Qualifications A. Tests– Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy. B. Must meet safety-related requirements including but not limited to those standards of safety imposed by OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and/or the company. C. Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, perceiving differences in wire cable colors, moving and/or lifting up to a minimum of 75 pounds, climbing ladders and working aloft using tools, meters and other test equipment. Must be able to work in cramped spaces, with minimal lighting when power fails, and areas where temperature exceeds 85 degrees. D. Must posses a valid driver's license and driver may be required to operate manual shift vehicles. E. Security background investigation may be required. F. Must be available to work scheduled tours designated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the needs of the business. Associates may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as the needs of the business necessitate. Non-scheduled days will be required as needs of the business necessitate. Training Continuing education process to proficiency, both formal and on-the-job. Length of training depends on type of office to which assigned.
