Ancient Greek Mythology Organizer (Summative Project)
I. STORY ELEMENTS OF A MYTH: Myths are traditional stories about the lives of the gods and legendary heroes.
Besides gods and heroes, the myths also contained monsters, magic, and amazing adventures. The myths of ancient
Greece are among the most famous in the world. Ancient Greeks lacked today’s scientific knowledge, so myths were
often created to explain the mysteries of nature such as birth, death, disease, storms, and legendary battles. Gods and
Goddesses shared similar characteristics (special quality or trait that makes a person, thing, or group different from
others). Gods and Goddesses behaved very much like humans. But unlike humans, they were immortal and had special
powers. You will need to read at least 3 myths provided by your teacher. These include the 12 mini-booklets located in
your classroom. These must be read in class when time is given.
II. SHORT RESPONSE: Answer the following questions using complete sentences. Remember to be descriptive
and restate the question in your answers. You may refer back to pages 253-254 of your textbook, pages 99-105 of
your folder, or the “story elements…” section of this organizer for help.

V. RUBRIC CHECKLIST: As you know, myths were often used to explain natural phenomena. Your
challenge is to create your own myth (origins story) to explain some natural phenomena or land formation
being created. It can be anything from the origin of hurricanes to how a mountain range was created. You
will first need to complete the story flowchart to help brainstorm your ideas. Refer back to page 253 of your
textbook, use the provided library books, and/or internet links for examples.
You MUST include the following (check off each item AFTER you complete your final draft):

Your story must involve your god/goddess or hero created above and include at least one other Olympian god/goddess that you researched.

Your story must explain the creation of some natural phenomenon (such as a weather event or earthquake) or some geological feature (mountain range,
a large valley, a sea, an ocean, etc.). Think about all of the incredible places we visited this year. You may choose any of those landforms. Remember
that you will be explaining the origins of the phenomenon or landform. DETAILS, DETAILS…

Your story must have a clear well-written introduction paragraph (introduces reader to characters and setting). 4-5+ sentences

Your story must include a clear well-written paragraph(s) that focus on the conflict and the events surrounding it. 5-7+ sentences

Your story must include a clear well-written conclusion/resolution that wraps up your myth. 4-5+ sentences

Your story should clearly show that you know something about Greek mythology by incorporating details about your powers, symbols, personalities, and
other information you learned during your research (sections I – IV of this packet).

You will be creating your own unique
® set on paper provided by the teacher. Refer to the last page of this packet for specific details.
