理學院學士班 1. Joint Science Program, College of Science 2. Bachelor Master Ph.D. 3. Introduction: The Joint Science Program is an independent program under College of Science. When new students enroll in our class, they are not placed into any particular department or a specific field for the first year. This is to enable the students to have sufficient time exploring their interests and abilities. The courses in the 1st year emphasize studies on language, logic, basic science, and cultural literacy with additional trainings on independent study and research. The courses in the sophomore to senior years adopt the ‘research-oriented teaching’ method: each student will take professional courses from one specific field while emphasizing cross-disciplinary learning. The elective course selection is more flexible than that of the students in host departments. 4. Curriculum Structure Calculus Required course Fundamental Courses - General Physics - General Physics Laboratory Each student has to finish at least 2 out of 3 - General Chemistry - General Chemistry Laboratory - General Biology - General Biology Laboratory packages. Each student has to choose1of the 5 specific areas Mathethatics - Algebra - Advanced Calculus - Elementary Differential Equations - Probability and Statistics - Computer Programming and Application Required Courses Professional Courses 20 credits of Interdisciplinary/ Non-Interdisciplinary Elective Courses Undergraduate Topical Research for Two Semesters Physics - Experimental Physics - Mechanics - Electromagnetism - Quantum Physics - Thermal Physics Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry - Physical Chemistry - Organic Chemistry - Inorganic Chemistry Life Science Optics&Photonis - Biochemistry - Microbiology - Cell Biology - Plant Physiology - Animal Physiology - Optics I, II, III - Intro. to Electro-Optical Engineering - Optical Systems - Optoelectronic Semiconductor Physics 5. Requirements for Graduation Bachelor Required credits 128 credits Duration of Study 4 years Other requirements Students select and pass at least 20 credits of courses assigned by advisor and approved by the chairperson. Credits selected should include at least two semesters of undergraduate research on a specific topic. Cross-disciplinary study is encouraged. 6. Research Facilities & Lab As each student will choose one specific field among Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Optics and Photonics, all research facilities and laboratories in the host departments are accessible to students in the Joint Science Program. 8.
