UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON THE UCL CANCER INSTITUTE JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the CRUK Drug-DNA Interactions Research Group GRADE: 7 RESPONSIBLE TO: Professor Daniel Hochhauser ACCOUNTABLE TO: Professor John Hartley and Professor Daniel Hochhauser Main Purpose: We are seeking a post-doctoral laboratory scientist to undertake research in the field of Her pathways and DNA repair. The main aim is to understand the mechanisms by which EGFR inhibition sensitises cancer cells to chemotherapy and exploit this to improve therapy. The successful candidate should have a background in biological/biomedical science and experience of cellular and molecular biology. Experience in the areas of DNA damage/repair or EGFR would be an advantage. The post will be based in the Cancer Research UK Drug DNA Interactions Research Group within the UCL Cancer Institute, University College London, UK. The post is funded as part of a programme grant from CRUK to Professors Hartley and Hochhauser until September 2018 in the first instance. To carry out research on defined, funded projects To develop and refine experimental strategies To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times To analyse and summarise research results and write reports and manuscripts To support and advise other projects in the lab To discuss experimental details, research projects and new articles with lab members To be involved in weekly laboratory meetings To attend research seminars and other meetings, both internal and external, as required To present research results at meetings and conferences To develop contacts and research collaborations within the institute and research fields To assist with other various tasks related to lab management, if and when the need arises To prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes To contribute to, draft and submit of papers to appropriate peer reviewed journals To prepare progress reports on research for funding bodies as required To contribute to the preparation and drafting of research bids and proposals 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. The Institute is located in the heart of London, and part of UCL [University College London]. UCL is consistently ranked within the top 20 global universities. The Institute is a purposebuilt facility opened in 2008 with state-of-the-art laboratories in the Paul O'Gorman Building housing over 350 scientists involved in cancer prevention, early detection, basic cancer biology and novel therapeutics. There are communal write-up areas with desks, computer and storage space. The Cancer Institute has exceptional core equipment facilities and an active research seminar series. Within the UCL Cancer Institute the position holder will work within the CR-UK DNA-Drug Interactions Research Group. Professors Hartley and Hochhauser work closely in preclinical and clinical studies of innovative agents as well as developing assays for in vivo use to determine effects of these therapies. The Cancer Institute is part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences) and is the focus for cancer research at UCL with 61 Group leaders, including 48 Faculty members (professorial, reader, and senior lecturers).
