The UCL Cancer Institute:
The UCL Cancer Institute (www.ucl.ac.uk/cancer) is 5 years old. The Institute is
located in the heart of London, and part of UCL [University College London]. UCL is
consistently ranked within the top 20 global universities. The Institute is a purposebuilt facility opened in 2008 with state-of-the-art laboratories in the Paul O'Gorman
Building housing over 350 scientists involved in cancer prevention, early detection,
basic cancer biology and novel therapeutics. There are communal write-up areas with
desks, computer and storage space. The Cancer Institute has exceptional core
equipment facilities and an active research seminar series. Within the UCL Cancer
Institute the position holder will work within the CR-UK DNA-Drug Interactions
Research Group. Professors Hartley and Hochhauser work closely in preclinical and
clinical studies of innovative agents as well as developing assays for in vivo use to
determine effects of these therapies. The Cancer Institute is part of the Faculty of
Medical Sciences (UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences) and is the focus for
cancer research at UCL with 61 Group leaders, including 48 Faculty members
(professorial, reader, and senior lecturers).
The hours of work and the distribution of these are at the discretion of the Head of
Department.
University College London has adopted an equal opportunities policy and specific
regard should be taken of its content in relation to the treatment of employees or
potential employees.
Please note that UCL operates a system of cashless pay directly into a bank or building
society account. All new employees are, therefore, required to have an account with a
bank.
