Greece Research Project
Attention Local Ancient Greece Experts!!
Spring is upon us and we all know what that means… summer will be
here before you know it!
Hellenistic Hide-A-Ways is an organization which brings together
representatives from different Greek-themed camps from around the world.
They are planning their annual Camp Fair and are looking for participants.
Since you run just such a camp this is the perfect opportunity to drum
up business for the summer! You and a partner must present your camp to a
group of stir-crazy, cabin-fevered, tired-of-school children! Don’t forget
their parents – you will also need to convince them that your camp is
worthwhile and perfect for their child.
Breakdown of the project:

You may work with a partner or on your own.

You must choose a figure/ topic from the provided list as an
inspiration for your camp.

You must complete the required research in order to give the proper
background to those interested in your camp. (Each person must write
their own five paragraph camp application.)

You must create a display for our camp fair that provides detailed
information about the campers’ potential summer experience!

The work must be evenly divided between partners.
You will be guided through the beginning of the research portion in class.
The remainder of the project will be done at home or after school. There
will be check-point dates for the different pieces of the project.
Good luck and have fun!!

Requirements for Research
Your project will have two main parts. You and your partner will each have to
submit a written report stating why the inspiration for your camp is
important to history. Then you will create a display about the camp for our
camp fair.
Part One -The Report: An individual written portion.

Thesis Statement – Everyone may use this thesis statement as a guide.
“ ___________________ is an essential part of Greek history. A
summer camp of this theme would enhance a child’s understanding of
the topic and its importance to today’s world.”

Your report will support this thesis statement using research based on
guiding questions. You will thoroughly answer three guiding questions
within your report. EACH partner is responsible for three individual
questions.

The answers to these questions will be written out in three body
paragraphs in the final research paper.
My Three Guiding Questions: (DIFFERENT from your partner’s)
1. _________________________________________________
2. _________________________________________________
3. _________________________________________________
Partner Questions: (list here so there is no overlap)
1. _____________________________________________________
2. _____________________________________________________
3. _____________________________________________________
Part Two - Camp Description for the Camp Fair
You and your partner can create a brochure, newsletter, poster, website,
Keynote, Powerpoint, etc. to share this information.
1. Camp Background

Why the camp was founded in honor of your god/person?
2. Campers

Who would be interested in coming to your camp?

What kinds of skills or interests must the campers have?

Are you open to boys and girls?
3. Cabins/Bunks

Each cabin or bunk must be named after some aspect related to
your person/god

What will the cabins look like? Will they have any special
features?
4. Daily Activities

Come up with at least five activities for your campers all
related to aspect of your person/god’s life/legacy
5. All-Camp Contest

This will be the most fun and exciting event of the summer
experience. What kind of challenge will each camper/group be
up against?
