Clinton Area Showboat Theatre opens its 2014 Season with The Taffetas, a tribute to the 1950s era music of such groups as The Fontane Sisters and the McGuire Sisters. In the style of the popular show Forever Plaid, The Taffetas takes us to the television debut of Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna, a doo-wop group of sisters who sing all the hits of the 1950s. Songs include favorites: “Sh-Boom,” “Mr. Sandman,” “Lollipop,” “Where the Boys Are,” and many more. Opening June 5th The Taffetas runs through June 15th at the Showboat. Carly Ann Berg, returning to the Showboat for her 2nd summer, will portray the role of Cheryl. She graduated in May from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Showboat patrons may remember Carly as Amalia in She Loves Me. Three newcomers to the Showboat stage will play the other sisters. Jenna Haimes (Kaye) graduated with a BFA in Music Theatre from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is from Conifer, Colorado, a mountain town outside of Denver. Heather Baisley (Peggy) will be a senior musical theatre major at Rider University in New Jersey. Originally from Pine Bush, NY she was a Lab Academy Actor at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca NY last summer and performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade opening number with Stagedoor Manor. Playing the role of Donna, Sarah Randall is currently a senior Musical Theatre major at Western Illinois University. Sarah is originally from White Hall, Il. Directing and choreographing The Taffetas is Brian Cowing, in his fourth summer at the Showboat. Last summer Brian directed/choreographed Forever Plaid and Godspell. Originally from Madison, WI, Brian will be joining the National Tour of Annie! Wm. Perry Morgan is musical director for this show. New Jersey's community theatre awards are named "The Perry Awards" in his honor and are presented every September at a gala ceremony. Mr. Morgan, whose theatrical credits span the country, currently teaches and directs at Greensboro College in North Carolina. Returning to the Showboat as members of the creative staff are: Scenic Designer Steven P. House, Lighting Designer Cassie Mings, Costume Designer Jenna Damberger, and Stage Manager Nicole Frechette. Haley Appel, a senior at West Carroll High School and member of the Showboat Intern Company, will be Assistant Stage Manager for The Taffetas. The Taffetas may be seen on the Showboat at 7:30pm on June 5, 6,7,12,13,14, and at 3pm on June 8, 11 and 15. Tickets cost $23, $20 for seniors and $16 for students and children. The CAST box office is open 11am to 4pm on Tuesdays and Wednesday, 11am to 7pm on Thursdays through Saturdays and noon to 4pm on Sundays. The 2014 CAST season includes three more musicals: Annie Get Your Gun (June 19-29), The Wizard of Oz (July 3-20) and Wonderful Town (July 24-August 2). Alice in Wonderland (August 8-17) is the final show of the season. This summer brings two theatre camps for children entering grades 1 to 8. Camp Oz is Monday through Friday, July 7 to 18 from 9am to noon, costing $85. Camp Wonderland is August 4-13th for just $75. Registration is available on line or at the box office. (Scholarships available). The first Follies of the 2014 season will be presented on Wednesday, June 11th at 7:30pm. The evening will be filled with musical selections performed by the company members and local actors as well. It is the perfect opportunity to welcome the talented cast to Clinton this summer. Tickets for this fundraiser are $20 for all ages.
