Young People's Theatre Offers Exciting Season of Theatre and Music
Do It With Class Young People's Theatre (DIWC) and 2012- 2013 Season Sponsor Saskatchewan
credit unions are pleased to announce the launch of an exciting season of musical and theatrical
productions with a unique appeal.
The season begins with Shakespeare's hilarious, and ever-popular favourite, Twelfth Night. DIWC
company members will perform a unique early 20th century version of the classical tale.
Based around the story of mistaken identity, Twelfth Night is essentially a comedic celebration of
romantic love. The plot focuses on overcoming obstacles to "true" love, even while Shakespeare
reflects on the madness of love. The show will be performed in the round, in the Jacqui Schumiatcher
Room of the Conexus Arts Centre October 4, 5 and 6th.

The company's second show of the season will be The Little Prince. Based on the famous novella
written in 1943 by French writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little
Prince is the tale of an airplane pilot, who crashes in the Sahara desert, where he finds a little prince, a
boy who comes from a small planet he calls Asteroid 325. The Little Prince tells the narrator that he
left his planet to explore others, and in the process has encountered a strange, narrow-minded world of
grown-ups. The story incorporates a number of very thoughtful themes and symbols.
The libretto and musical score for this unique version of The Little Prince was created by DIWC
music director Rob Ursan. He believes the story has great messages for both children and adults alike.
“It really encourages its readers not to lose track of what it is to be a child. Children often see and
understand things that adults don't. In The Little Prince, it's the adults that get caught up in the
unimportant, and the child that sees through to what really matters,” said Ursan.
The Little Prince will be performed in the round in the Jacqui Schumiatcher Room of the Conexus
Arts Centre February 26, 27 and 28th.
The company's third show of the 2012-2013 season will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat. Based on the “coat of many colors”, the story of Joseph from the Bible, the production
includes wonderful musical numbers and elaborate costumes.
“This is a wonderful show that both performers and audience members alike will love. It has a great
story and fabulous musical numbers, and is the perfect show for the whole family. Once you've heard
the tunes, you'll be humming them for days,” said Adorlie Hillstrom, artistic director, DIWC.
Joseph will run on the main stage of the Conexus Arts Centre, from April 10 – 13th. Do It With Class
Young People’s Theatre Company (DIWC) is Saskatchewan’s only pre-professional musical theatre
and drama company for children and youth. The company is made up of skilled actors, singers and
dancers ranging in age from 7 – 18, and draws young performers from as far away as Val Marie and
Weyburn to be a part of the company.
Do It With Class provides Saskatchewan youth with performance opportunities and training in a range
of performance arts, including dance, voice, drama, and musical theatre production. Many graduates
of the company have gone on to become professional performers, including Paul Nolan, who recently
played Jesus in the ever- popular Jesus Christ Superstar, on Broadway; Tatiana Maslany, who will be
the lead in the new BBC America series Orphan Black; Amy Matysio, who plays Kenny in the
comedy series Single White Spenny, currently airing on Showcase; and many others such as Jeff
Irving, Kyle Golemba and Ingrid Nilsen.
The youth theatre company was formed in 1993 by artistic director, Andorlie Hillstrom. Past
productions performed by members of the company include: Les Miserables, Willy Wonka, The Wiz,
Into the Woods, The Rocky Horror Show, Titanic, The Wind in the Willows, Cats, Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang, Alice in Wonderland and more.
