Maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database To: Training Officer HRA From: Prabhashni Chand Date: 20th March 2009 Subject: Maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database The above course was conducted by Datec from 2nd to 6th of March in Commercial’s meeting room. The coordinator was Mr Bharat and I was the only trainee. The Aim of the course was to learn the following: 1. Install and configure SQL Server 2005 2. Manage database files. 3. Backup and restore databases. 4. Manage security. 5. Monitor SQL Server. 6. Transfer data in and out of SQL Server. 7. Automate administrative tasks. 8. Replicate data between SQL Server instances. 9. Maintain high availability. The course was interesting and knowledgeable. My aim to do the course was to better maintain the systems using SQL server. Currently the company is using three systems that are using SQL 2005 and because we were not properly trained we faced difficulty in maintaining server and doing database backups. The course did not only teach me how to achieve my aim but it also taught me a lot of other functionalities of the server which makes my work easier. I learnt how to install SQL server, create database, manage it, apply security and monitor it to ensure high availability of the server. This will help IT reduce downtime of SQL server. The overall experience was excellent and I learnt a lot that makes my work lot easier. Training Facilities and Accommodation The training room facilitation was excellent except the tea breaks were not at all properly done. It was not on time and at times it was embarrassing when we were there to have tea but the table was completely empty with not even tea or milk. Lastly, I would like to thank Airports Fiji for giving me this opportunity to participate in this course. I thank everyone involved in getting the approval for me to go through this course.
