In any right triangle, the square of the length of the longest side (hypotenuse) is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides (legs). Example 3: Using the Pythagorean Theorem to Find the Side of a Right Triangle Suppose you have a 13-foot ladder and want to reach a height of 12 feet to clean out the gutters on your house. How far from the base of the house should the base of the ladder be? Special Right Triangles If a triangle has angles measuring 45°-45°-90°, what are the lengths of each of the sides?
