Immunology of the lung, with special focus on infections, interstitial lung diseases and
lung cancer;
Interstitial lung disease: treatment evaluation and new markers for idiopathic pulmonary
fibrosis; immunology of sarcoidosis
Tuberculosis and Respiratory infections: new diagnostics; treatment outcomes of
MDR/XDR-TB forms; new immunological treatments; infections in the
immunocompromised host; Nontuberculous Mycobacteria.

EXPERIENCE AT INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS ABROAD
02/2002 – 09/2003 Visiting Research Fellow at the General Clinical Research Center, Chest
Service, Bellevue Hospital, NYU (Director William N Rom): His research was focused on the
co-expression of immunosuppressive factors (especially CCL18 and IL-10) from infected
macrophages. He also worked on the evaluation of IFN-γ via aerosol for the treatment of MDR-TB.
Supervisor: Rany Condos, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine. New York University, Bellevue
