Task Description:
Objectives:
The student will:
Students will be introduced to Greek
mythology through exploration of the
Ashes2Art website and other resources
that accompany this lesson. Students will
then apply their understanding of the
information and create a Greek God or
Goddess of their own as a 3-D puppet.
Students are to write a brief reflection
and/or present their creation to the class
explaining their puppet in relationship to
themselves and Greek mythology.

their knowledge of the history of Greece and Mythology.(Nat.

Presenting the Temple of Apollo will
assist the students to understand the
importance of mythology in Ancient
Greece. This lesson introducing Greek
culture encompasses social studies, history,
language arts, and visual arts. Create
Mythology encourages students to respond
in a creative visual and literary way. For
this lesson, the national standards are
Visual Arts standards, but can be adapted
for another subject area easily.
The attachments in this lesson directly
coincide with the website ( http://www.
coastal.edu/ashes2art ) and suggested
classroom discussion.
2. By exploring Ancient Greek Mythology the student will
apply it by making sketches of their own God of Goddess
puppet and the materials they want to use. (Nat. Standard: )

Procedures:
1. Introduce mythology figures and the Temple of Apollo (utilize the resources available from
Ashes2art, particularly the essay regarding the Temple of Apollo).
2. Introduce power point presentation and discussion/lecture on mythology gods and goddess and
relate it to Greek culture. Show examples of images of famous mythology figures and stories.

4. Have the student discuss their sketch and materials that he/she will use to create their puppet.
5. Instruct the students on how to use any of the materials available.

goddess and how it relates to Greek mythology.
