1. China’s two most important rivers are the Yellow River in the north and the Yangtze
River in the south.
2. A dynasty is when power was passed through a family for many generations, usually
from fathers to sons or sometimes nephews.
3. The Shang Dynasty was one of the earliest dynasties. People believed the Shang Kings
communicated directly with the gods and the ancestors.
4. Bronze bowls were created as a way to allow the Shang Kings to communicate with the
gods.
5. Bronze bells were later created to entertain the ancestors with music.
6. The Shang Dynasty was the first to use writing to communicate with the gods and
ancestors. The kings had their advisors scratch a question into an oracle bone, and then
the bone was heated until it cracked. The advisor then analyzed the cracks to
determine the answer to the king’s question.
7. For 200 years 7 different Chinese kingdoms fought each other to rule all of China.
8. Emperor Qin was the first man to unite all of China by taking control of all 7 kingdoms.
He gave himself the name “The First Magnificent Emperor”.

kind of writing and money to help unify China.
