Kuwait Petroleum Corporation
KPC strategically coordinates and supervises the various group subsidiaries. It finances their
operations and oversees the marketing of crude oil, refined product and gas in foreign markets. The
Corporation also provides significant support to the Kuwait Ministry of Oil in its dealings with other
member countries of the OPEC.
To support its international business interests, KPC has several Regional Marketing Offices that are
strategically located across the globe, from Houston to London, Mumbai and Pakistan to Singapore
and Tokyo. These offices effectively contribute to the sales and marketing operations of KPC and its
subsidiaries, in line with its short-term and long-term strategies. Their scope of work includes regional
market analysis, establishing and maintaining relations with other key oil players, increasing KPC’s
share in existing markets, as well as, entering new ones.
Kuwait National Petroleum Company
KNPC is responsible for the oil refining and gas liquefaction industry in addition to the marketing of
petroleum products in Kuwait through a chain of filling stations.
The main products KNPC provide to the local market are unleaded Super Premium gasoline and
Premium gasoline, gas oil, and kerosene. In addition to fuel supplies, most stations provide other
services such as oil changing, and distilled water for car batteries.
Fuel Supply and Storage
The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) is the national oil refining company of Kuwait, it
handles the responsibility of oil refining, gas liquefaction, storage and distribution of petroleum goods
within the local market.
Following are the refineries:

Mina Abdullah refinery: Located 46 km south of Kuwait City, Mina Abdullah is capable of refining
270,000 barrels per day (43,000 m3/d) (BPD).

Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery: Located 45 km south of Kuwait City with a production capacity of
465,000 bbl/d (73,900 m3/d).

Shuaiba Refinery: Located 50 km south of Kuwait City within the Shuaiba Industrial Area. The
refinery has a capacity of 195,000 bbl/d (31,000 m3/d).
Products Depots:
The Local Marketing Department is running two depots to supply fuel to the distribution network. The
first one is in Sabhan. It is supplied with petroleum products ie, gasolines (different grades), kerosene
and diesel from Mina Al-Ahmadi and Shuaiba refineries by pipeline.
The other depot is in Al-Ahmadi.
Fuel Marketing and Local Distribution
KNPC owns and runs 39 filling stations, and 80 filling stations are managed by Oula and Alsoor, local
marketing private companies.
Total sales of the various kinds of gasoline reached in the local market this year 3424 million liters
against a total of 3336.6 million liters in the previous financial year, a 2.6 % increase.
Kerosene sales however showed a significant increase by 9.1 % as they reached around 49.1 million
liters compared to 45million liters in the previous fiscal year.
Gas Oil sales in the local market witnessed a slight drop of around 0.8 % and totaled1389.7 million
liters against 1400.4 million liters in the past year.
Total Fuel Sales in the local market in the fiscal year 2010/2011 reached 4862.7 million liters against
4782 million liters in the previous fiscal year increasing by 1.7%
Fuel Demand
Does local supply (domestic refinery production and imports combined) meet the needs of the
country, especially for aviation and ground fuels? Yes

Kuwait is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), exporting the
fourth largest volume of oil among the group in 2010. At the same time, Kuwait's economy is one
heavily dependent on petroleum export revenues, which account for half of its overall gross
domestic product (GDP), 95 percent of total export earnings, and 95 percent of government
revenues.
Domestic refinery products meets the demand for aviation and ground fuels.
