Nuestras Voces (Our Voices)
National Hispanic Network to Reduce Tobacco-Related and Cancer Health Disparities
Through meaningful collaboration and networking, the provision of training and technical assistance, and
dissemination of the latest information on tobacco and cancer control, the Nuestras Voces (Our Voices)
National Hispanic Network to Reduce Tobacco-Related and Cancer Health Disparities works to empower
Hispanics and those who serve them around the U.S. to eliminate disparities in these critical health areas.
Within the realm of tobacco and cancer control, Nuestras Voces works toward building Hispanic
community infrastructure, as well as increasing partnerships with regional and national tobacco and
cancer control networks and other stakeholders, to:
 Decrease exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke,
 Increase smoking cessation,
 Increase cancer prevention, and;
 Improve quality of life for those living with cancer.
Network activities focus on:
 Bringing together local, regional, and national partners to leverage resources and share successful
strategies;
 Developing national and regional action plans to implement evidence-based tobacco and cancer
initiatives and best/promising practices for community and regional stakeholders;
 Disseminating the latest tobacco and cancer developments, research, and best practices through
webinars, training/TA, and the Nuestras Voces website (www.nuestrasvoces.org); and,
 Increasing tobacco and cancer awareness and education through national media activities and
social media outreach.
The Nuestras Voces Network partners with the following Subnetwork Lead Agencies that serve as regional
Network representatives and work with partners, organizations, and other stakeholders located in states
in their National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) Region:

The Nuestras Voces Network is one of eight funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office on Smoking
and Health and the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control to operate national networks to serve specific populations
experiencing tobacco and cancer-related disparities. Nuestras Voces is administered by the National Alliance for Hispanic Health.
Nuestras Voces Network Membership Benefits
Individuals and organizations are invited to join the Network at no cost. The one-step process to become a member
involves completing a short online membership registration form www.nuestrasvoces.org/join. Benefits include:





Assistance identifying and receiving tobacco and cancer control training and technical assistance;
Advance notice of upcoming trainings, webinars, and other events;
Assistance connecting with other organizations and activities at the state level and around the country,
including health departments, national tobacco and cancer control groups, and other organizations with
similar interests;
Access to the Nuestras Voces Network web site that includes the latest Hispanic tobacco and cancer data and
educational materials for Hispanic consumers; and,
Opportunities to provide input and participate in a national effort to reduce tobacco and cancer-related
disparities among Hispanics.

1. What is the purpose of Nuestras Voces?
The purpose of the Nuestras Voces Network is to build Hispanic community infrastructure to decrease tobacco use
and exposure to secondhand smoke among Hispanics, and increase cancer prevention and management for
Hispanics. Specifically, the Network:




Serves as a central resource on evidence-based interventions, best/promising practices, and other proven
strategies that address tobacco and cancer control among Hispanics;
Arranges for training and technical assistance on tobacco and cancer control efforts for Hispanic-serving
organizations;
Establishes and increases partnerships among national, regional, and local tobacco and cancer control
networks and other stakeholders; and,
Collects and disseminates the latest tobacco and cancer developments, research, and news.
2. How is the Network organized?
The Network is administered at the national level by the National Alliance for Hispanic Health (the Alliance), and is
represented by 11 partners around the United States that serve as regional Network representatives. The Network is
governed by a National Advisory Committee, and is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention’s (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health and the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control.
3. Can I request technical assistance from the Network?
Anyone can request assistance from the Network on issues pertaining to tobacco or cancer control in the Hispanic
community. Depending on where you are located, we may connect you with the Network’s lead agency in that
region of the country to provide you with tailored assistance.

4. Is there a typical response time to questions?
Responses to questions and requests for assistance are typically returned within one business day.
5. Do your services cost anything?
Network services do not cost anything. While our resources have limits, we will make every attempt to provide you
with training and T.A. or connect you with resources to address your tobacco and cancer-related needs.
6. Who can join the network?
Anyone is welcome to join the Network. Individuals, organizations, and other networks or coalitions are encouraged
to register and become involved in our efforts to address tobacco and cancer control issues among Hispanics.
