MONTHLY CALENDAR
SEPT.
September
- The seventh month when March was the first month of the year.
Full Moon - (Called the Harvest Moon or Fruit Moon) Sept. ,
1994 about
1:59 pm E.D.T., 19:59 U.T. (Universal Time) The Harvest Moon, the rule
describes, is the Full Moon at or after the Equinox, which can also put the
Harvest Moon in October some years. To the Sioux Indians this moon is
the Dying Grass Moon.
Morning Star - Saturn and Mars.
Evening Star - Venus, Jupiter and Mercury.
Special Events Anticipated.
Fall or Autumn Equinox - The sun "appears", as we travel in our
orbit,
with an axis tilt, to move south. The direct rays of the sun strike the
equator. The sun enters at the Equinox the astrological sign Libra but
astronomically it has only just entered Virgo.
Equation of Time - On Sept. 15 the sun is "RUNNING FAST" 4.5
Minutes. Solar noon will be 4.5 Minutes later then the clock on the
wall.
Special Star - Vega, the pole star in 13,000 years now west of
Antares, giant red star, near horizon, west northwest.
zenith.
Special Constellation: Summer triangle overhead. Stars are:
Deneb in the constellation CYGNUS (the swan);
Altair in the constellation AQUILA (the Eagle);
and Vega (the polestar in 13,000 years) in the constellation LYRA (the
lyre- a small ancient harp
like musical instrument). The three stars of the triangle appear to be
about the same brightness. However, Vega is 26 light years away, Altar is
about 17 light years away and Deneb is about 1600 light years away.

Interesting Features:
Lagoon Nebula, a cloud of gas and dust,
material
of
which stars are forming can be seen south-southwest near the "spout of the
teapot" (Sagittarius) constellation.
The double star (Altir and Mizar) in the bend in the handle of the Big Dipper
(Ursa Major) easily detected. It is a good viewing of Saturn, perhaps the most
impressive of the planets look to the southeast. Look for Saturn's shadow cast
on the rings giving a kind of 3-D effect.
September is a month of harvest time and traditionally a time of season that
foretold what winter would bring "weather prophets of yesteryear" would say.
These September signs were often remembered through simple folklore rhymes.
Here are four such rhymes:
Doves fleeing south
Before a September storm,
Look for a winter to be
Anything but warm.
Doves calling on a September Day,
Means gentle rain is on the way.
When late September
Brings an early frost,
Fail to stack firewood
And you'll pay the cost.
Snakes in September heading
To their den,
A sure sign cold's about to
Set in.
