long-term strategy to expand its Clinical Academic Cardiology research. As part of this expansion,
this post will be expected to contribute to the development of research and teaching programme
within the Keele Cardiovascular Research Group, Institute for Applied Clinical Sciences. As part of the
ongoing clinical training, the ACL will also have clinical commitments within the Cardiology
Directorate, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust in order to complete the clinical skills
required for his/her specialist training, towards full registration within the cardiology speciality. As
such, the post is subject to the terms and conditions of service determined by Keele University and,
in its honorary clinical capacity, by those of the UHNM NHS Trust.
Academic training and development of the ACL
This academic post is sponsored by Keele University and UHNM. It will provide a career pathway for
highly motivated and ambitious trainees in Cardiology who have already shown excellence in
research by successfully completing a PhD/MD degree [candidates must be in receipt of their
PhD/DM degree or show proof of approved submission of thesis title and named examiners to their
university/viva date]. The post supports local and regional needs to strengthen academic Cardiology
and research innovation in the field of Cardiovascular disease. Keele’s Institute for Applied Clinical
Science is a newly created multi-disciplinary Institute that brings together clinical academics whose
main focuses are around i) cardiovascular disease ii) trauma and rehabilitation. The post builds on
the excellent performance in applied clinical research from 2014 Research Excellence Framework
