Colonial – Constitution
TEKS: 1A, 1B, 1C, 2C, 27B, 30A, 31A, 32A
1st day – Have the students read the student contracts. The students must sign the
contracts by the beginning of the second day of school in order to receive a 100.
After the students have read the contracts, we will discuss the contracts together as
a class, and we will discuss my expectations for them. The students will then begin
their first attempt at the pre-post test.
2nd Day – Finish the first attempt at the pre-post test.
3rd Day – Establishment of Colonies/ location/ roles
 I will look at a map and draw how the colonies progressively spread out, and
began, while explaining, and discuss what the colonies did.
 I will introduce them to the major people and the roles they had in
establishing colonies and governments.
 We will review over the major historical figures as a class.
4th Day – French Indian War/ Seven Year War
 Bell Ringer over the Colonial People
 We will discuss the tensions between Great Britain and France, the Seven
Year War, and how the spill over of the Seven Year War to North America in
the form of the French and Indian War affected the colonies.
 Explain reasons why the Indians helped the France, and how this affected the
colonies in the form of the Proclamation of 1763.
 Fill in a blank map with the line for the Proclamation of 1763 and label the
states as a class.
5th Day – Expanding West/ Taxation
 Colonial Map and Role Quiz
 Colonial British Tensions Group Discussion
6th Day – Rebelling/ Declaration of Independence
 Stamp Acts
 Colonial Rebellion, expanding west past the line
 Discuss significant historical figures and the roles they had leading up to the
American Revolution
 Read the Declaration of Independence
7th Day – American Revolution
 Introduce the significant historical figures and the role in the Revolution that
they had




Discuss the importance of articles that were printed such as the Declaration
and Common Sense
Discuss the significance of major battles
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages that the colonist experienced in
the American Revolution.
Explain the effects of the Treaty of Paris
8th Day – Articles of Confederation/ Shay’s Rebellion
 Wrap up/ answer any questions about the American Revolution
 Take the American Revolution Quiz
 Explain the importance of, and the weakness of the Articles of Confederation.
 Describe the Shay’s Rebellion and explain how it impacted the United States.
9th Day – U.S. Constitution/ Federalist Papers/ Bill of Rights
 Shay’s Rebellion Bell Ringer
 Read the Preamble of the United States Constitution.
 Discuss the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and have students
discuss plans to better the government.
 Explain both sides of the debate between Federalist and Antifederalist and
the agreement they reached.
10th Day – Review
 U.S. Constitution vs. Declaration of Independence Bell Ringer
 Review Constitution and/or Federalist Papers.
 Assign the Analyze U.S. Constitution Project Assignment, and set the due date
for one week later.
 Review over any questions the students may have.
11th Day – Test Day
