We are all moving along, keeping up with the passage of
time in our own distinct ways. In that spirit, The Mountain
Astrologer presents a revised survey of resources for learning
astrology in a digital or correspondence format — an update
to the listing in our Oct./Nov. 2014 issue. This is current information, as of July 2016. Some of the schools and teachers have revised their programs since the 2014 survey, and
there are 20 new additions. Many teachers and courses have
a presence on social media — Facebook, Twitter, and You
Tube channels being the most ubiquitous examples. Most of
these websites have quite detailed information, including fees
(which vary widely), student testimonials, information about
certification, and (more commonly than even two years ago)
video clips.
I laughed the other day: Seeing that we are in “the
golden age for Dad jokes” (e.g., video competition where the
Dads challenge each other to stack as many Cheerios as
possible on the little faces of their sleeping babies without
waking them), we must also be in a version of a golden age
for studying astrology. Please understand that TMA does not
endorse any particular courses; we have tried to give succinct
descriptions from the range of astrological styles, points of
view, techniques, and methods employed in this wonderfully
diverse group of resources. Also, this is not a complete list —
we tried to be thorough, but online astrology today is bigger
than one article can cover. We hope you enjoy this collection
and find the next best step for your studies.

Thousands of people have been trained through AFA’s
home study SuperStar Course, which has 3 sections: The
Basics of Astrology, Natal Chart Delineations, and Progressed
Chart Delineations. The SuperStar Course is comprised of
22 lessons, purchased together or in sections, and now also
available online. There are quizzes as you go, and you work
with an instructor via e-mail. This course is designed to prepare you for the AFA certificate exam, and you can view
Lesson 1 on the website. AFA also offers advanced courses
on Asteroids (e.g., Juno, Ceres, Pallas, and Vesta; asteroids
specific to finances, relationships, romance, and composites;
etc.); Horary (including how to effectively weigh contradictory
factors and how to assess event charts); and Relationships
(including synastry, composite and Davison charts, Venus arc

Astrological Psychology Association
http://www.astrologicalpsychology.org
The APA (formerly AP-UK) teaches “the Huber Method,”
which was developed by Bruno and Louise Huber. It is a psychological approach to chart interpretation based on the natal
chart, the “house” chart, and the Nodal chart, all of which
give insights into influences from the environment and the
“shadow” aspects of personality, which in this context can be
understood as experiences of past lives. The method is closely
linked to Psychosynthesis, an approach to self-development
founded by Roberto Assagioli, with whom the Hubers studied.
Students receive the lessons in PDF files, send assignments
to their tutor, and work at their own pace. The Diploma
Course, which has 8 modules and a number of written assignments, generally takes 2–3 years. Contact: Barry Hopewell,

Astrology College (UK)
http://www.astrologycollege.com

forecasting, synastry, advanced interpretation techniques,
astronomy, and history and will soon include a mundane section. The course material can be purchased in either PDF or
hard-copy format and was written by a group of U.K. professional astrologers, some of whom serve as tutors. Contact:

International Academy of Astrology (IAA)
http://www.astrocollege.org
The International Academy of Astrology offers a 3-year
diploma program where Modern and Classical Astrology are
studied side by side. IAA President Ena Stanley founded the
school in 1997. In 2015 (with the help of Vice President Lee
Lehman, Ph.D., and CEO Julene Louis), IAA underwent a
major curriculum revision to heighten the Modern materials
and incorporate Classical techniques into each course. Classes
at IAA are taught in weekly online meetings, and homework is
given with instructors offering feedback on assignments. The
IAA also holds free monthly lectures and offers ad hoc courses
in Financial Astrology, Medical Astrology, and Vedic Astrology,
along with various other topics through Pocket-Courses. The
IAA diploma is respected in the astrological community and
offers some reciprocity with NCGR and ISAR Certifications.

specific tools to determine the time when specific events have
occurred in the eternity of time, whether it’s in our previous
or next incarnations …” There are 3 modules: the previous
incarnation, the next incarnation, and the Karma of Now.
Lea will teach Energy Astrology, a body of work that she has
created and developed. The entire course is 10 months long
and is designed “to develop balance with your natal planets.
It consists of 10 lectures and exercises, including a ‘planetary

Kepler College
http://www.kepler.edu
Kepler College’s passion is to enhance the field of
astrology in a professional and structured way by providing
resources for investigation, education, and practical application. There are 3 paths for online study: Community Web
inars, supported through donations, are 1½-hour lectures
offering multiple perspectives from a wide range of speakers.
Topics include astrology’s history, its many spiritual paths,
philosophical explorations, and practical uses. The Continuing
Education workshops allow participants to interact with instructors as they listen to a more in-depth lecture on a specific
topic. Workshops vary in length ranging from 2 hours to online lectures each week for up to 12 weeks. The Certificate/
Diploma program has 4 start dates per year. In these intensive
courses, students are presented with the origins, controversies,
and application of astrological methods and techniques. The
goal is for students to develop the tools they need to evaluate
new information and choose their own astrological path.
An individual Certificate provides an in-depth look at a
particular area of astrology and generally requires three 10week courses. These courses are taken sequentially and require 8–10 hours of work per week. The core Certificates are
the Fundamentals of Natal Astrology and Moving the Chart
in Time. The Professional Diploma in Astrology builds on the
core Certificates. The Diploma requires a total of 12 courses
plus 2 in chart calculation. Required courses include Astrological Counseling, History, and Astronomy, as well as electives
in Forecasting and Alternate Traditions. Contact: kepler@
