Welcome to game changing technology for households across England, Scotland and Wales. We’re thrilled that you’re interested in becoming a national partner and excited at the prospect of this really important campaign. And it is important. The way we buy gas and electricity needs to change. Few people understand what they’re buying, how much it costs or how to use less of it. So we are on a mission to develop one of the most inspirational and engaging consumer campaigns that this country has ever seen – focussing on the rollout of a new technology that can finally transform the energy market and pave the way to a smarter future. Our success and ability to reach and engage the breadth of the British population is dependent on having robust and effective partnerships from across the private, public and voluntary sectors. As such National partners are really important to this campaign. Daniel Denize, Partnership Marketing Manager Phillippa Brown, Head of Partnership Marketing and Events Gavin Sheppard, Director of Marketing 0 Open invitation to become a National partner Partnership marketing Working with and through partner organisations – from across the voluntary, private and public sectors – is a central part of our marketing strategy. Whether that be working strategically with a national charity to support their beneficiaries to understand smart meters, supporting a small local lunch club to distribute leaflets, or partnering with a national retail brand to bring the smart meter experience to their customers in store, we know that meaningful 1-2-1 conversations with consumers led by brands and people that they know and trust will be a critically important part of what we do from now until 2020. National partners National partners are a key component of our partnerships programme. We need to make sure that no one is left behind and that consumers can receive the information they need to understand the benefits of smart meters and say yes to having them installed. The depth and breadth of relationships that National partners bring will enable us to build momentum and engage at scale. We want to work with partners from across the private, public and voluntary sectors that have national reach and a trusted relationship with consumers. 2016 audiences We recently conducted research to identify, understand and segment vulnerable audiences, as specifically relevant to the smart meter journey. This research informed Smart energy for all, a consultation paper on identifying audience characteristics that may act as additional barriers to realising the benefits of smart meters. Details of the research and the conclusions of that consultation can be found here smartenergyGB.org/smart-energy-for-all Through this research we identified the following audiences that we particularly want to engage in 2016: o o o o o o people with memory or learning impairments and their carers prepay customers off-gas grid customers district heating customers social housing tenants private tenants We are looking for National partners who work with at least one of the above audience groups across England, Scotland and Wales. They will be extremely well trusted and have credibility in talking about the smart meter rollout to their customers, community and stakeholders. National partners will activate their marketing channels for reaching these audiences, be effective in spreading the word about the smart meter rollout and enable consumers to progress along their smart meter journey. This is a truly exciting and unique opportunity for organisations to be a part of the nation’s biggest consumer engagement campaign. If you are interested in becoming a National partner and think that you can help us develop targeted solutions that raise awareness and increase understanding of smart meters at scale then we would love to hear from you. Describe the marketing channels that you would use to engage your stakeholders with this campaign Smart Energy GB Smart Energy GB is the not-for-profit campaign for the national smart meter rollout. It’s our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control. Our national campaign has already begun and will reach all households and microbusinesses in England, Scotland and Wales. You can read more about Smart Energy GB at: smartenergyGB.org/national-rollout/about-smart-energy-gb About smart meters and the rollout Smart meters will replace the traditional gas and electricity meters we currently have in our homes. They will provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, every home and microbusiness across England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier at no extra cost. Nearly 2 million smart meters have already been installed. You can read more about the national rollout of smart meters at: smartenergyGB.org/national-rollout We are here to make sure consumers in every GB household understand smart meters, how they can benefit from them and the national rollout. This includes sustained behaviour change, rather than just driving interest in smart meters. We have a particular duty to ensure that low-income, potentially vulnerable and prepay customers benefit from smart meters as expressed in the objectives of our organisation, which are set out in law as: o o o o Build consumer confidence in the installation of Smart Metering Systems by gas and electricity suppliers; Build consumer awareness and understanding of the use of Smart Metering systems (and the information obtained through them); Increase the willingness of Energy Consumers to use Smart Metering Systems to change their behaviour so as to enable them to reduce their consumption of energy; Assist customers with low incomes or prepayment meters, or consumers who may encounter additional barriers to being able to realise the benefits of Smart Metering Systems due to their particular circumstances or characteristics, to realise the benefits of Smart Metering Systems while continuing to maintain an adequate level of warmth to meet their other energy needs. We believe that partnerships will play a key role in engaging the consumers reflected in our fourth objective.
