Clarification of Muscles for Index Cards
Upper Body Corrections

Erector Spinalis is listed in the book as the Spinalis muscle on p. 47 of your chapter 3
hand-out. Use the information in the book for this muscles

Semispinalis Capitis: O = transverse processes of all cervical and thoracic vertebrae
I = up 5 to 7 segments of spinous processes of cervical and
thoracic vertebrae, and between the superior and inferior nuchal
lines of the occipital bone.
F = extends the head and spine, rotates the spine to opposite side
and laterally flexes it
The splenius’s full name is the splenius capitis
 Splenius Capitis:
O = inferior ½ of ligment nuchae (special ligment attached to the
nuchal line)
I = mastoid process of temporal bone and occipital bone
F = extends the head and neck, flexes and rotates the head to the
same side

Flexor Pollicis Brevis:

Abductor Pollis Brevis: O = flexor retinaculum & tubercles of scaphoid & trapezium
I = radial side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
F = abducts thumb, helps opponens pollicis in early opposition
O = flexor retinaculum and tubercle of trapezium
I = Lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
F = flexes carpometacarparl and metacarpophalangeal joint
Lower Body Corrections

Quadratus Lumborum:

Psoas Major and the Iliacus combine to make a muscle called the Iliopsoas in your book.
Therefore, use the information from the textbook for the Iliopsoas for both of these cards.
O = Posterior part of iliac crest
I = Inferior border of 12th rib & transverse process L1 – L4
F = Lateral flexion of lumber vertebrae; assists diaphragm
in inspiration and depresses and stabilizes the twelfth rib
