Temple of Ramses Location: Abu Simbel, Egypt Date: 13th century B.C. Building Type: Egyptian Temple Building Structure: Carved out of rock Interesting Facts: The temple is 38 meters long and 31 meters high. The door way to enter the temple is 7 meters tall At the front of the temple are four statues of Ramses. Each of the four statues are 20 meters high This temple is named after Ramses who was the third Egyptian pharaoh of the nineteenth dynasty. Ramses is known to be the most powerful and the best ruler in Egypt. Ramses built this temple in honor of himself. The temple lays in the bend of the Nile River In the 1960’s, the Nile River began to flood which cause the water to rise up to the feet of the temple. To keep the temple from being flooded many people dug it up and moved it to a higher elevation.
