4- Research Summary ( English)
The objectives of the proposed project is to deploy a system that permits to monitor and supervise a building in
order to provide energy saving, habitat security, habitat comfort and fast disaster detection.
The project consists of two main parts. A hardware part consists in deploying a set of sensor nodes in a building
to control light, temperature and other environments conditions in order to provide the inhabitants comfort and
save energy. A software part that consists in developing interfaces to monitor the captured physical parameters.

6- Objectives
i) The objective of the proposed project is to deploy an application that permits to monitor
and supervise a building in order to provide energy saving, habitat security, habitat
comfort and fast disaster detection.
ii)
The project consists of two main parts. A hardware part consists in deploying a set of
sensor nodes in a building to control light, temperature and other environments
conditions in order to provide the inhabitants comfort and save energy. A software part
that consists in developing interfaces to monitor the captured physical parameters.
iii)
Development of an object oriented model for sensor data repository: Sensor
networks generate massive amount of data in quick real-time. Acquiring and storing
such data in quick real-time is mandatory in order to understand the phenomenon of
interest.
iv)
Development of a new model for fault detection and missing data in sensor
network: Fault and missing data are common in sensor networks. In order to get the
precise solution we need to make sure that there are no faulty sensors in the network and
missing values must be calculated.
v)
Development of energy aware prediction model for future data prediction:
Prediction of data is very helpful in reducing the energy consumption of sensor network.
vi)
Development of Web based visualization model for sensor data repository to
support decision making: Sensor data are complex in nature. Hence, it cannot be
understood by everyone. Visualization of sensor network makes it easier to understand
such data.

9- Expected Scientific Contribution
The project concerns the design of a Smart Building System which can have an interesting
commercial value. We hope to develop wireless sensor data repository that will be useful for
research community interested in the design and development decision support tools for wireless
sensor applications.
Tunisia is a touristic place and contains numerous hotels. Therefore, energy management and
tourists comfort is an important issue that must be addressed in these hotels. More precisely, the
output of this project can be used in hotels to save energy and provide comfort to tourists.
Moreover, this project can be used in large buildings such as mosque, residence, etc. to manage the
HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) parameters.

10- Research Project Design & Methodology
Smart phones comprise a large and rapidly growing market. These devices provide
unprecedented opportunities for sensor mining since they include a large variety of sensors,
including an: acceleration sensor (accelerometer), location sensor (GPS), direction sensor
(compass), audio sensor (microphone), image sensor (cam-era), proximity sensor, light
sensor, and temperature sensor. Combined with the ubiquity and portability of these devices,
these sensors provide us with an unprecedented view into people’s lives—and an excellent
opportunity for data mining and Knowledge Discovery.
In this project we planned to design and develop Smart Building environment to deploy
an application that permits to monitor and supervise a building in order to provide energy
saving, habitat security, habitat comfort and fast disaster detection. It requires deployment
of several wireless sensors nodes that meets our objectives are connected to a base stations
with in a building. The functioning and monitoring of these sensors are implemented with
a Client- Server Model.
The massive data generated by sensors are captured and stored in an object-Oriented
Model in order to manage this large data sets. Data Mining/ Knowledge Discovery Models
are proposed to used to analyze the patterns relationship of different sensors.
The development of a relational model for massive sensors data will help in reducing
the amount of query processing in the sensor network . An thus resulting in reduction in
sensor node’s energy consumption. Hence, increases the lifespan of sensor network.
Development of model to detect the faults and find the missing data is necessary to get the
precise solution. Data Mining and machine learning techniques such as Bayesian
Algorithms, Probabilistic approach or even fuzzy logic are proposed to find the faulty
sensor data. Deployment of regression model to predict the sensor values to reduce the
number of message exchanges between the source and the sink. Graphical methods are
proposed to represent the sensor data to aid the end user to understand the complex sensor
data, and to support in decision making. A web application can be developed which will be
connected to the sensor data repository. This kind of application helps the end user to
monitor the sensor network from a remote place.
JAVA, SDK, ECLIPSE, ANDROID SDK, and Android Development Tools(ADT) are
investigated and proposed for the development of Smart Building environment and
management. WEKA Data Mining Tools are proposed and data Analysis. Sensor mining
applications using smart phones will become common over the next decade. Real
implementation of the proposed Smart Building system has high commercial impacts in the
fields of science and technology and Research and Development areas.
