FTC is an acronym. It stands for Federal
Trade Commission
 The FTC is the nation’s consumer
protection agency.

What is the FTC?

The FTC works for the consumer.
Who does the FTC work for?

They prevent fraud, deception, and unfair
business practices
The FTC prevents
Enhances consumer confidence by
enforcing federal laws that protect
consumers.
 Empowers consumers with free
information to help them exercise their
rights and spot and avoid fraud
 Wants to hear from consumers who want
to get information or file a complaint
about fraud or identity theft.


The 7 divisions of the FTC are:

Protects consumers by enforcing the
nation’s truth-in-advertising laws, with
particular emphasis on claims for food,
over-the-counter drugs, dietary
supplements, alcohol, and tobacco.
Advertising Practices

Plans, develops and implements creative
national campaigns to alert consumers to
their rights
Consumer and Business Education

Litigates civil contempt and civil penalty
actions to enforce all FTC federal court
injunctions and administrative orders that
address consumer protection issues.
Enforcement

Protects consumers from deceptive and
unfair practices in the financial services
industry including protecting consumers
from predatory or discriminatory lending
practices
Financial Practices

Leads the commissions response to
internet, telecommunications , and direct
mail fraud; deceptive spam; fraudulent
business, investment, and work-at-home
schemes.
Marketing Practices

Collects, analyzes, and makes available to
law enforcement consumer fraud, identity
theft, and National Do Not Call registry
complaints.
Planning & Information

Safeguards consumers’ financial privacy;
investigates breaches of data security;
works to prevent identity theft and aids
consumers whose identities have been
stolen.

The FTC is dedicated to protecting the
