CLAIMS
1. A device for non-invasive drug delivery depends basically on an atomizing
ultrasound transducer with the following specifications:
An ultrasound atomizing transducers applied directly on the skin to inject
proteins in general and insulin specifically in a non-invasive way to skin
layers.
At least one ultrasound transducer with dimensions of 29.1 mm length and
17.3 mm width and 1 mm thickness consists of a PZT element, attached
to a watch shape.
This watch includes a reservoir made of a compatible thermoplastic
material, and its upper part is made of a medical silicon or rubber cap for
drug insertion by user.
The reservoir included in the ultrasound watch lies above the vibrating part
of the transducer, the whole watch; which will contain the reservoir with
the ultrasound transducer with a medical silicon material to prevent
leakage of the drug, will be applied on the inner part of the elbow.
2. The transducer in claim (1) has small micro nozzles (7-10 microns) able to
transfer proteins from the upper part of the transducer to the lower part of it.
3. Depending on claim (2), the drug will be transferred as a fine mist from the
upper side of the transducer to the lower side of it because of the frequency
which made the vibrating procedure.
4. According to claim (3), the lower side of this transducer will be in a direct
contact with the skin to have the micro nozzles in a direct contact with the
skin, this micro nozzle is the track the drug will pass through reaching human
skin.
5. The ultrasound transducer has a resonant frequency of 130-140 KHz which is
considered to be low frequency able to increase skin permeability within 15
minutes according to cavitation theory.
6. Intensity results from applying at least ultrasound transducer are safe for
human skin and do not have any side effects, and relatively small (0.8
W/cm2).
7. The device in claim 1 will include a piece for turning on the watch which
includes the ultrasound transducer with the drug reservoir, this piece will
contain at least one driving circuit for at least one transducer, with a PIC
1
microcontroller and other equipments which connected to at least one LCD
screen with at least one button control to let the user choose time and doses
needed to be transferred into human skin, the whole system will be packaged
on a printed circuit board with a power supply to drive the whole system.
8. According to claims 1-7: at most two pieces will be connected together, one
piece from claim 1, which has the ultrasound transducer with a reservoir and
its rubber or silicon cap for the insertion of the drug by say micro pump or any
other delivery systems such as needles or insulin pens for insulin drug cases,
and the other piece said in claim 2 which contains the electronics parts that
will drive the transducer and considered to be a user friendly, easy and light
weight. These two parts will be connected by at most two wires being
insulated by, say; silicon or rubber, and a housing procedure is made
between those two pieces, can also be separated as the first part can be
wearable all time since it is a good looking device, with a watch shape, and
can be connected to the other piece whenever a specific amount of doses is
required.
9. According to claims 1-7, this device will be light and easy to use for say
diabetes patients in case of insulin delivery, in such a case; a preferable drug
delivery system connected to the reservoir is suggested to be an insulin pen,
with a pre specified doses from the patient, the upper part of drug reservoir is
made from a medical silicon cap to enable needle injection into reservoir for
inserting the desired dose of say insulin.
10. According to claim 9, diabetes patients with type 2 are the most concerned
category to get benefits from the device. In such a case, type 2 diabetes
patients have to wear the device of about one hour before meals, and to inject
the reservoir with the desired dose of insulin, but with an extra dose to be
taken into consideration to offset the stuck insulin lies on the skin layers until
reaching the capillary beds in a specific layer.
11. According to claim 10, the dose required for say insulin will have an excessive
3 units of insulin (100 units= 1 ml, 1 cc), in order to have a track for say insulin
to pass through all parts of the skin reaching the desired part which have the
capillary beds which will absorb insulin and circulate it within the blood
stream, the excessive drug of say insulin will be needed to push particles of
say insulin gradually inside skin.
12. According to claim 11, an invention of new doses of say insulin for diabetes
patients to be administered non-invasively will be defined on a manual guide
for users.

13. According to claim 12, a new method of specifying the amount of dose
required will depend on the natural permeability of human skin, according to
some special tests will be made for each user
14. According to claim 13, a new method will connect the natural permeability of
human skin with time needed for the device to operate on the skin to reach a
specific or required dose of the drug.
15. According to claim 14, this new method is considered to be stable and flexible
for users to deal with, since the variable is time and not frequency in this
device, user have to change time on the LCD attached to the device and
doesn’t have to change the transducer while manufacturing but with each
patient have the same frequency bit with different exposure times for
ultrasound to increase the permeability.
