Content Statement
Use facts about complementary, supplementary, vertical, and
adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple
equations for an unknown angle in a figure.

Essential
Questions: What
should students
know, understand,
and be able to
do?
How can you classify the relationship
between angles? What can you conclude
about the angles formed by two intersecting
lines?
Definitions of adjacent, vertical,
complementary and supplementary.
Enduring
Understandings
Angles are present in everyday life.
Knowing the relationship between angles
allows you to determine missing information
in a figure.
Guiding
Question(s)
What does the term adjacent mean in
everyday context? Where do you see angles
in the world around you? Can angle pairs fall
into more than one category? Can they be
classified as none of the above?
III: Anticipatory
Set
Ask students about angle measures and
classifications they are already familiar with
using the hands of a clock as a reference
point. Give students a note sheet and
include vocabulary they already know.
Encourage them to start taking notes before
they watch the video… indicate where new
learning begins.
IV. Procedures
(Teaching
Strategies,
Activities,
Technology,
Materials)
Review video and take notes on definitions
and examples. Guided note sheet is
provided for students to fill in.
Students should answer textbook questions
online so they can get immediate feedback
about their understanding.
Complete a written worksheet practicing new
concepts. Provide a partial answer key so

students can check their work.
Teacher can track progress of online
assignment. Questions cover classifying
angle relationships, real world examples, and
finding missing information.
V. Assessment
Students will turn in their notes so they can
be checked for accuracy.
Students will turn in a written worksheet.
Two levels of the worksheet are provided to
differentiate between class levels. All
students are encouraged to work at the
highest difficulty level possible.
Complete and turn in practice questions.
VI. Homework
Enrichment worksheet incorporates
equations. Students are expected to connect
the geometry concepts to previous work with
equations. In addition, they are asked to
answer higher level questions. They need to
create problems, answer open ended
questions and provide reasoning.
