Scientists from the Past
Sixth graders researched
important events in the
past lives of famous
scientists who helped us
learn more about our
universe.
It started with a visit from famous Scientists
brought from the past by Toyota of Ogden.
Scientist Neil Armstorng (alias Chris Lanier) gets
the red carpet treatment.
The scientists shared events from their
lives.

The aliens are

How could you
possibly live on the
planets Mercury,
Venus, or Mars????
Aliens came to tell us how they
adapted to live on their planets.

Saturn

Facts about Saturn.
In 1610, Galileo used a new invention-a
simple telescope to look at Saturn.
When he viewed the planet for the first time,
he saw something strange. He thought he
saw three stars together, a big one in the
middle of two little stars.
He knew they weren’t really stars, but what
were they?
It turned out that Galileo was the first
person to see Saturn's rings.
Saturn is the most distant known of five
planets called the stargazers.
Saturn has at least 38 natural satellites.
Saturn is not cold it is one of our hottest
planets.
Saturn has over 1000 rings surrounding it.
Saturn's winds can blow over 1800
kilometers per hour.
Sorry this planet can’t support life. It
might have but does not now.
We have learned many things about Saturn
but we have many more to learn too.
Saturn is a gas giant mostly made
of hydrogen and helium.
Saturn's ring system is the most extensive
and complex in our solar system. It
extends hundreds of thousands of
kilometers from the planet. Saturn and its
rings would just fit the distance between
the Earth and the Moon.

Mars Facts
This 3-dimensional Image Was created
From Several Images of Olympus Mons.
It’s possible that volcanoes of such
magnitude were able to form on Mars
because the hot volcanic regions in the
mantle remained fixed to the surface for
hundreds of millions of years.
The Planet Frofile
It’s mass is 6.42 by 10.23
It’s maximum surface temperature is
310
Minimum surface temperature is 150.
The Valles Marineris
Nearly half of the canyon system is
visible here. The entire system
extends over 2,490 miles, some parts
of the canyon runs as deep as 4 miles.
Shield Volcano
Olympus Mons is the largest volcano
on Mars. This Shield Volcano,
similar to volcanos in Hawaii,
measures 374 miles and 16 miles
high.
The Martian meteorite
Even though this meteorite was
collected in Elephant Moraine,
Antarctica in 1979, some scientists
believe that it came from the planet
Mars. Pockets which contain air
much like the air measured on
Mars by the Viking Spacecraft.
This Meteorite is 180 million years
old.
Planet Profile
The Average distance from the Sun is
1.524. It’s Atmospheric components
are 95% Carbon Dioxide, 3%
nitrogen, and 1.6% argon. The surface
materials are basaltic rock and altered
materials.
Mosaic of Deimos
This computer mosaic of Demos
was made with acquired from
Viking Orbiter one of its close
approaches to the moon. The 9
mile diameter Deimos circles
Mars every 30 hours. Scientists
think that some of Mars moon
were asteroids that were pulled
into Mars gravity.
Grooves and Lines
One of the most striking features on
the 16 mile diameter, irregularly
shaped Phobos is the presence of
grooves over most of its surface. The
grooves seem to radiate in all
directions from the giant Stickney
crater and converge on the opposite
side of the satellite at a region close
to the Stickney antipode, they
measure 2,307 ft across and 294 ft
deep. They range differently, and
respectively.

Pluto has one moon known,
Charon.
Some facts about Pluto
?Once over 248 Earth years, Pluto swings
into the orbit of Neptune.
?While in the orbit of Neptune it stays there
for twenty years.
?People think Pluto is not a real planet.
They think it is a moon that got away from
Neptune's gravity pull.
Pluto is sometimes called the
double planet. The reason for
this is that Pluto’s moon is
about the same size. Pluto only
has one known moon, Charon.
More facts about Pluto
?Pluto wasn’t discovered until 1930
?Charon, Pluto’s moon, was discovered in
1978
Age and weigh on Pluto

?If you weighed 200 pounds you would be

Some more facts on Pluto

?Charon is half the size of Pluto
?Pluto and Charon are very hard to see even
with the best telescope!!

reason of this is because methane gas

THAT IS HOT ENOUGH TO MELT YOUR

Neptune and Uranus are very much alike. They are both large gas
planets that look like big blue-green balls in the sky. Neptune has
winds in its atmosphere which blow at over 2000 kilometers per
hour! This planet has large, dark circles on its surface which
astronomers believe to be storms. Neptune has two thick and two thin
rings which surround it. Neptune also has eight moons. Four of these
moons orbit the planet within the rings. One of Neptune's moons,
Triton, orbits the planet in a direction opposite that of the seven other
moons. Due to Pluto's unusual elliptical shaped orbit, Neptune is
actually the farthest planet from the Sun for a 20 year period out of
every 248 Earth years.

The planet Venus
By Justin Pack
Venus is the second planet from the
sun.
Facts about Venus
? Venus and Earth are almost the same size. Venus
is the closest planet to Earth, but it does not have
oceans or human life like Earth. Venus gets so
hot during the day that it could melt a lead
cannonball. The temperature rises to 484 degrees
Celsius on the side facing the Sun. Venus has
very thick, rapidly spinning clouds which cover
its surface. These clouds hold heat in. That is
why Venus gets so hot. These clouds also reflect
sunlight. That is why Venus appears so bright to
us here on Earth. There are constant
thunderstorms in these clouds.
Venus can get up to 462 C.
Venus has no natural moons or
satellites.
Venus's mass is .8150
Venus is 108.21 million
kilometers from the sun.
Here’s a picture of the crater
golubkima on Venus.
? Venus In Color
? The bluish hue of Venus is an effect of the
colorization technique used to enhance subtle
contrasts in cloud patterns and indicates that this
image was taken through a violet filter. Features
in the sulfuric acid clouds near the top of the
planet's atmosphere are most prominent in violet
and ultraviolet light. This image shows the east to
west cloud banding and the brighter polar hoods .
The features are embedded in winds that flow
from east to west at about 370 kph (230 mph).
?The 1962 flyby of Venus by Mariner 2 led
to an accurate determination of the planet's
mass. This spacecraft, and ground-based
observations, also measured high
temperatures, around 300° C, in the
atmosphere of Venus.
