What do we know about Magnetism?
 The ends of magnets are called poles
 There is a North pole and a South pole
 Opposite poles attract
 Like poles repel
 Magnets attract 3 metals: iron, nickel, and cobalt
 Earth has an iron core.
 The Earth is a giant magnet!
 All magnets, including Earth, have a magnetic field.
 Moving electrons cause magnetism.
 A compass needle moves because of a magnetic field.
What do we know about Electricity?
 Flows in an unbroken path called a circuit
 Circuit has a source of electricity, a resistor (something to
use the electricity, and a switch (turns it on and off)
 Not all things conduct electricity
 Produced by a generator in a power plant
 Batteries are a portable source of electricity
 Solar cells change solar energy into electricity
 Moving electrons (think about bees buzzing around hives)
