Kippax Hall Surgery Infection Control Annual Statement 2015 / 2016 13 April 2016 Purpose This annual statement will be generated each year. It will summarise: Any infection transmission incidents and any action taken (these will have been recorded in accordance with our significant event procedure) Details of any infection control audits undertaken and actions taken Details of any infection control risk assessments undertaken Details of staff training Any review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines Background Kippax Hall Surgery has one clinical and one non-clinical lead for infection prevention control Annemarie Lowe- Practice Nurse Karen Taylor – Practice Manager Significant events In the past year there have been no significant events raised that related to infection control Audits An audit of minor surgery is undertaken quarterly by the Practice Manager. No infections were reported in the last year An infection control audit is carried out quarterly by the Practice Nurse and Practice Manager The following main areas were identified during the past year as requiring further action o o o o o o o Waste segregation posters Sharps injuries posters Keyboard cover for minor surgery Urine / vomit spill kit Cleaning of store room Scale on taps Cleaning of window frames All actions have been completed with the exception of the key board cover Introduced hand hygiene audit Infection control self-assessment tool completed October 2015 Risk Assessments The following risk assessments were already in place and are reviewed / updated on an annual basis Risk Assessment Last Reviewed Infection Control 5 June 2015 Legionella 28 September 2015 Sharps 27 April 2015 Immunisations / injections 29 October 2015 Cervical smears / swabs 29 October 2015 Dressings 29 October 2015 Ear syringing 29 October 2015 MRSA 01 December 2015 Phlebotomy 29 October 2015 Respiratory devices 01 December 2015 Spirometry 29 October 2015 Staff Training All staff receive infection control training at induction and undertake annual refresher training. All staff have completed their annual update The infection control leads meet at regular intervals throughout the year Infection control is a set item on the monthly nurse meeting Policies, Procedures and Guidelines Polices are formally reviewed annually; however all are amended on an on-going basis as current advice changes, or needs arises.
