Sensing, social networking, smartphones, and connectivity will have a profound effect on medicine. 18 Harnessing sensor Intelligence The French artificial Experiment The same tiny sensors that measure air pressure and altitude in an airplane or satellite are also in the artificial heart Thanks to the latest electronic sensor technology used in guided missiles, the heart can also respond instantly to changes in blood pressure and flow and adapt the heart beat rate accordingly The device could save millions of lives and beats almost exactly like the real thing using electronic sensors to regulate heart rate and blood flow This should allow the device to respond immediately if the patient needs more or less blood 19 Harnessing sensor Intelligence Data mining The adoption of data mining, particularly pattern-matching and machinelearning techniques, will help unlock the hidden patterns and associations in sensor data. These trends could give us the first glimpses of collective intelligence. 20 The Internet of Things The IOT is rapidly becoming a reality. Advances in ICT technologies have made possible the connection of more and more devices to the Internet. Sensors play a key role in connecting the physical world (temperature, C02, light, noise, moisture, etc) with the digital world. The success of IOT will be driven by applications that deliver tangible improvements to people’s everyday lives Sensors provide the data streams upon which these applications can be built. As the value and impact of these new wave of applications are realized, the need for both improved and new sensor technologies and more applications and services will grow Continuous miniaturization of sensors and low-cost systems on chips (SOCs) will continue to fuel future development of IOT This is leading to a new wave of applications that have the potential to dramatically improve the way people live, learn, work, and entertain themselves. 2 Increase, Multiply & Conquer the Earth THANK YOU 2
