Ancient Greek food
Ancient Greek food was very simple
and healthy but what did they eat?
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
For breakfast they ate a lot of bread and other simple
foods such as porridge.
For lunch they typically eat more bread, cheese and
figs.
For dinner they would eat: Vegetables, more bread,
eggs, fish and more cheese
Who was the Goddess of food?
The goddess of food was Hestia (Goddess of
home and hearth).
The ancient Greeks pray to her when they cook.
Weird meals that the Spartans eat
The Spartans ate some very weird food that we
would never even consider eating. They ate
things such as: Boiled dandelions, Plant bulbs
from the ground. And they ate disgusting soup
which had horrible things in such as: Lambs
blood and sheep's liver (Yuck!)
Why was honey so important?
Honey in Greece was very important so they
kept beehives for their honey and it made a very
good dessert.
Honey was also important because sugar had
not been developed yet so they used it to
sweeten up their dishes . Honey was very tasty
to the Greeks.
Where were the meals prepared?
The meals in Greece were prepared in the
courtyard
The Greeks were very clean, there hands where
always clean when they cooked. They did this
because they where showing respect to Hestia.
