“The Land Between the
Come to Sumer!
If you are looking for a city bound vacation
come to Sumer where culture is abundant.
Sumer is the dominant kingdom in the
Mesopotamia! Come between the time period
of 4000 - 2800 BCE before conflicts arose!
Bring food, bring friends and bring family!
The Assyrian Empire Rises Again!
Are you a fan of Middle Eastern culture? Well
come on over to the Assyrian Empire! Besides
for their strict Hammurabian laws the Assyrian
Empire is the place to be. Just be careful for
the internal and external conflict arising near
612 BCE.
Babylon? More like Grab Your Mom!!
Grab your mother and come on over to
Babylon. Come from the time period of 1792 1595 BCE before the Hittites take over. King
Hammurabi created a strict set of rules to keep
you citizens in line! What a great a place to
raise a family.
Come on Back to Babylon
After their slight skirmish with the Hittites the
Babylonians are back in business. Now that
they are back, they are prepared for anything
with their thick walls. If you have a taste for
luxury you will love Babylon under the rule of
Nebuchadnezzar.
Leadership!
Mesopotamia is home to the most premier
kings in all of the land. By 3000 BCE all
Mesopotamian cities were ruled by kings and
their noble men.The kings of Mesopotamia are
the most elite men from the finest families.
Kings like Hammurabi, Gilgamesh, and Sargon
of Akkad led their civilizations to greatness.
OMG Technology!
The first wheel was brought to Mesopotamia in
3500 BCE. In just a mere 500 years, tourists
from around the world could ride in style in their
donkey pulled wagons! Along with the wheel a
new metal was discovered called iron. Hittites
used this metal to create weapons to defend
their peasant lives! They were the first
peoples of the Bronze Age.
You Can Thank Mesopotamia for Writing
The world's FIRST form of writing
came from Mesopotamia’s Sumerians.
Clay tablets, also know as cuneiforms, stored all the
information of the Mesopotamia people in 3100 BCE.
Cuneiform writing lasted another 3000 years until
the Greek alphabetic script took over. This method
was much easier having 26 written symbols
representing a sound instead of hundreds of
different symbols for words.
Not an Economic Wannabe
With bustling trade, Mesopotamia is an economic
powerhouse. Mesopotamia is also an agricultural
giant. Numerous specialized labor jobs are always
available! Many other regions were jealous of the
wealth and tried to steal it. Although there were
random floods, due to region being between two
rivers, the rivers supported the huge agricultural
economy which included the production and
irrigation of barley, wheat and peas.
War!!
The first recorded war in Mesopotamia
was in 3200 B.C.E but war was not
common until around 2500 B.C.E.
Honorable mentions:
★ King Ensi of Uruk of Sumeragainst Humaba of the Cedar
Mountains
★ King Sargon- Conquered all cities
of Sumer, Mari and then onto
Northern Syria
Unstable!!
★ Mesopotamia being so flat made
it easy for savages to pillage
them for their grave wealth in the
Sumerian cities. SO make sure
ya bring some wood to make a
fence (although some temples,
palaces and defensive walls
were built around Mesopotamia).
Pack your galoshes because
Random Floods also put the
region in danger.
Laws
★ Hammurabi’s
Codes are strictly
enforced so make
sure you know a
good lawyer or
know your stuff
before you think
about causing
trouble since the
codes were
extremely strict.
