Emmanuel Roilides is Professor of Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases in Aristotle University. He received his medical and doctor of philosophy degrees in 1979 and 1988, respectively, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece, and worked from 1986 to 1992 at the National Institutes of Health (National Institute of Child Health and National Cancer Institute) in Bethesda MD, USA. Since 1993, he has been a faculty member in the Aristotle University School of Medicine. He founded the Research Laboratory of Infectious Diseases in the Third Department of Paediatrics at Aristotle University in 1993. Currently he is Associate Editor for Clinical Microbiology and Infection and a member of many national and international scientific organisations. He has been Secretary General of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology, and has become a Fellow of Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is the author of more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters of which more than 250 are cited in PUBMED, and he regularly reviews articles for national and international biomedical journals. In addition, he has reviewed a great number of research proposals for funding from European Commission and various different national organisations. He has coordinated a European Commission–funded multinational research network and several Hellenic Ministry–funded research networks. He is currently partner of two multinational consortia funded by EC. He also participates or currently conducts several multicenter or multinational studies.
