LESSON NO. 1 DATE: NOV. 13 ,2007 COMPETENCIES D1. Different types of quadrilaterals and their properties. I. Objectives 1. To recall the concepts relating to quadrilaterals. 2. To discuss the different kinds of quadrilaterals. II. Subject- Matter Reference Resources : Kinds of Quadrilaterals ( A Recall ) : Geometry textbook by C.M de Leon pages 121 http://library.thinkquest.org/20991/geo/quads.html : ruler, pencil, internet A. Introductory activity a. Drill. : What are the different kinds of triangle? Identifying different kinds of triangles (using a PowerPoint presentation) b. Review : 1. When are two triangles congruent? 2. If two triangles are congruent, how many pairs of congruent parts can be shown? Name these. B. Development of the lesson 1. Opening Activity ( Offline activity ) 1. Divide the class into eight groups. 2. Let the groups lists as many quadrilateral objects found inside the classroom as they can. 3. Ask why they said these objects are quadrilaterals. 4. Go over the lists to make sure all those in the list are quadrilaterals. 5. Reward the group with the most number of quadrilaterals objects in the list. 6. Relate the activity with the lesson for the day. 2. Main Activity (on line activity) 1. Assign three (3) students in each computer. 2. Ask the students to open the internet explorer. 3. Allow the students to work the activity for 10 minutes found in chapter 4, lesson 1 student activity of the website www.samgierlessons.wikispaces.com 4. Let them present their outputs using a PowerPoint presentation. 5. Facilitate the presentation of outputs by each group. 3. Post Activity Discussion Presentation of outputs by selected groups. C. Fixing skills ( In PowerPoint presentation) Show the figures below and ask the students to answer the following questions. B A S O H T P A Figure 1. Figure 2 For Figure 1 a.) Name the sides, vertices and angles. b.) Name the opposite sides and angles c.) Name the parallel sides and diagonals. For Figure 2. a.) Name the consecutive sides and consecutive angles. b.) Name the diagonals. c.) Name the parallel sides. d.) Name the non –parallel sides. e.) Differentiate between the properties of Figure 1 and Figure 2. D. Generalization Identify and illustrate the different kinds of quadrilaterals and state the properties of each. IV. Evaluation ( ON LINE QUIZ) For the given figure, name the following: 1. Four pairs of consecutive angles. 2. Four pairs of consecutive sides. 3. Two pairs of opposite sides. 4. Two pairs of opposite angles. 5. Two pairs of opposite vertices 6. Two diagonals R E V. Agreement Answer Test Yourself nos. 16 – 20, page 120. Geometry Textbook O S Student Activity ALL ABOUT QUADRILATERALS OBJECTIVE In this activity, you will recognize the basic properties of quadrilaterals. PROCEDURE 1. Draw a quadrilateral and mark their vertices A, B, C, and D, then answer the following: - What are the sides of the quadrilaterals? - What are the angles? - The vertices - Which sides are opposite? Consecutive or non- opposite? - Which angles are opposite? Consecutive? - If we draw a line connecting the opposite vertices, 1. How many lines will be formed? 2. What kind of lines are they? 3. Name these lines. A B D C
