HOR359690 JAB/KG 3/09 © Copyright 2009 UPMC Magee Comprehensive Breast Center at UPMC Horizon About us What to expect Located at the Womancare Center in Hermitage, the Magee Comprehensive Breast Center at UPMC Horizon provides a comfortable and private setting while offering exceptional patient care. The center is affiliated with UPMC Cancer Centers and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. When you call 724-347-4847 to schedule an appointment, a clinical assistant will ask you for the following information: • personal identification information • insurance information • person responsible for your referral • reason for the appointment • most recent breast imaging Initial evaluation Prior to your appointment, one of our staff members will contact you to obtain a medical history. She will want to know if you are experiencing any symptoms, and will ask you for a list of medications, including over-the-counter medications such as aspirin and supplements, and whether you have any allergies. Our surgeon will review any breast imaging that you may have had and will perform a physical examination, including a complete clinical breast exam. Together, our surgeon and our radiologists will determine the best plan of care for you, which could include additional imaging, a minimally invasive biopsy, surgery, or simply being monitored closely using clinical breast exams and breast imaging. • allergy history You will be asked to obtain all recent imaging films and any other medical records prior to your appointment. Imaging services The American Cancer Society recommends that women between the ages of 35 and 40 have a screening mammogram to act as a baseline. Then, beginning at age 40, a screening mammogram should be done annually. It is important to have previous films and reports from your earlier mammograms for comparison. If your prior mammogram was not done at a UPMC facility, you will need to bring your most recent films and reports, or arrange to have them sent so they are available on the day of your appointment.
