About us
What to expect
Located at the Womancare Center in Hermitage, the Magee
Comprehensive Breast Center at UPMC Horizon provides a
comfortable and private setting while offering exceptional
patient care. The center is affiliated with UPMC Cancer
Centers and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute,
the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated
Comprehensive Cancer Center.
When you call 724-347-4847 to schedule an appointment,
a clinical assistant will ask you for the following information:
• personal identification information
• insurance information
• person responsible for your referral
• reason for the appointment
• most recent breast imaging
Initial evaluation
Prior to your appointment, one of our staff members will
contact you to obtain a medical history. She will want to know
if you are experiencing any symptoms, and will ask you for a
list of medications, including over-the-counter medications such
as aspirin and supplements, and whether you have any allergies.
Our surgeon will review any breast imaging that you may
have had and will perform a physical examination, including
a complete clinical breast exam. Together, our surgeon and
our radiologists will determine the best plan of care for you,
which could include additional imaging, a minimally invasive
biopsy, surgery, or simply being monitored closely using clinical
breast exams and breast imaging.
• allergy history
You will be asked to obtain all recent imaging films and any
other medical records prior to your appointment.
Imaging services
The American Cancer Society recommends that women
between the ages of 35 and 40 have a screening mammogram
to act as a baseline. Then, beginning at age 40, a screening
mammogram should be done annually. It is important to have
previous films and reports from your earlier mammograms
for comparison. If your prior mammogram was not done at a
UPMC facility, you will need to bring your most recent films
and reports, or arrange to have them sent so they are available
on the day of your appointment.
Our center offers the following imaging tests:
• screening mammography
• diagnostic mammography
• breast ultrasound
• breast MRI
• bone density screenings
• stereotactic breast biopsy
• MRI biopsy
