Drug Interaction Preferences:
Certainty – indicates the minimum point at which the application records a reaction:
 Established
 Probable
 Suspected
 Possible
 Doubtful
 None – shows all interactions regardless of the certainty
Severity – indicates how serious a reaction must be:
 Major – interactions that may be life-threatening or can cause permanent damage.
 Moderate – interactions can cause a patient’s condition to deteriorate and may require
additional care or hospitalization.
 Minor – interactions that are bothersome, but otherwise not clinically detrimental to the
patient.
Contraindication – indicates a condition which makes a particular treatment or procedure inadvisable.
 Absolute - contraindication is defined as a substantial risk of injury and specifies the prescribed
drug should not be given in the presence of the stated condition. Setting the threshold to this
level only report this type of warning. It minimizes interruptions by suppressing lower level
warnings.
 Potential – contraindication is defined as those which may present clinical risks when certain
conditions are met. Setting the threshold to this level reports both Absolute and Potential
warnings.
 Use with Caution – contraindication is defined as requiring additional caution and monitoring
for safe and effective use in the stated condition. Setting the threshold to this level reports all
Absolute, Potential and Use with Caution warnings.
 None – displays all contraindication warnings.
Criticality – indicates how serious an allergic reaction must be to be displayed.
 Critical – allergies may be life-threatening or can cause permanent damage. Setting the
threshold to this level only report this type of warning. It minimizes interruptions by suppressing
lower level warnings.
 Severe – allergies can cause a patient’s condition to deteriorate and may require additional care
or hospital.
 Moderate –reactions are bothersome, but otherwise not clinically detrimental to the patient.


Mild – reactions are bothersome, but otherwise not clinically detrimental to the patient.
None – displays all reactions.
