Cayette Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Charleston AFTN Surface METAR/SPECI McMurdo South Pole Terra Nova Various Camps National Science Foundation Data Assimilation for Aviation Technical Services Operational Forecasting The McMurdo and Deep Freeze Weather Offices are responsible for collecting and disseminating environmental data, in support of the United States Antarctic Program, for Antarctica and its contiguous waters. International cooperation and coordination for the exchange of environmental data are achieved primarily through the collective efforts of member countries of the Antarctic Treaty and the World Meteorological Organization. In addition to standard reporting, the valued cooperative of Agencies, Science Grants in Environmental Studies, and the collection and distribution of nontraditional reports assist in the formation of weather analysis and forecasts for the Antarctic Continent and surrounding waters. Data Input for NWP The main function of the McMurdo Weather Office is to provide flight weather briefings, ship forecasts, local area forecasts, aerodrome forecasts, warnings, and weather observations.
